Hmm...thats probably whats going to happen. Makes sense what u have said. However, I did not understand the salary band thing. When u say the equivalent of £80,000, does this mean I find out what £80,000 corresponds to using the earnings calculator? For e.g earning of £40,000 = 45 points in the U...

In the caseworker manual, it specifically mentions that Form 16 is not acceptable. I don't have much idea about income tax laws in India, but my understanding is that SARAL ( or the New SARAL) is still a form wherein a tax payer fills up the details and do it under self assessment if he/she wishes. ...

SARAL and Self Assessment

Hi ppl. I read in the HSMP guidelines that they do not accept Self-Assessed Tax Documents as they are not independant. However, in the defination of Tax returns they have said that it denotes: "a document generated by yourself/the business/the company for the purposes of an official return to a...

Thank you both Gordon and T_Mahmood for clearing my confusion. I think that to keep things simple, I'll claim for 12 months starting from 1 July 2007- 30 June 2008 since this fits perfectly within my income tax period. If I apply on 1st Sept 2008, it'll still be within the 15 months prior to the app...

Salman, I would stress on giving either a birth certificate or a driving license as proof of your age. I read somewhere here that some ppl got rejected for not providing either and only relying on the notarised copy of the passport.

Hi Arif If you apply with the wages slip from July 07 to June 08 (claiming period) + tax returns of full one year of the period claimed, there is no need of bank statments. But to be on safe side and if possible, submitt bank statments and employer letter as well. Hope this helps. T_, sorry to both...

No Matt, I'm afraid you got it right. The 20 points are NOT added to the score of 75. The new rules states that you have to get the passing maek in EACH category i.e 75 in the first step, 10 in English and 10 in Manintenance. But I do agree with you..keeping a score of 10 of the English and Maintane...

Translators

Hi all, I was wondering if the HSMP guidance notes says anything on the translation services. If I were to use the services of a prominent law firm to translate a document, would that be acceptable? I am not aware of any specialist translation services in my country.

Thanks for the replt T_Mahmood! Would the GCE score help? I can always ask the uni to provide me with a letter, but I think I read somewhere that if one has a grade of minimum C at GCSE, it should also suffice. Do you know if this is correct?

English Language requirements under the New Rules

Hi all. I have an honours degree (LL.B) from a UK university. I also have a professional degree (Bar-at-Law) from the UK. I did my GCE O'Levels (way back in 1996) and I got a C in English Language. I also had a TOEFL score of 650 (that was done in 1998). Can I ask the people in this forum if this wo...

Self Assessment for Income Tax

I was wondering if anyone can throw some light into the self assessment for Tax. In my country certain professionals are required by law to give self assessment returns. This includes, doctors, lawyers, etc. Once one fills out the self assessment forms, then the Tax Authority does some checking, to ...

Indeed it is an excellent way of making money. However, I believe the genuine applicants of HSMP won't mind the 200 quid hike, as long as they get the approval!! The thing that bugs me most is the currency conversion. Coming from a third world (or should I say developing nation), the currency fluctu...

As far as the Borders and Immigration website and Work Permit website is concerned, there is not much change as far as HSMP is concerned. The only difference being that they have included a section on English Language and Maintainance. However, one still has to obtain 75 points to qualify. So as thi...

I have read that the wrking holiday makers visa will come under tier 5. But tier 5 will not be implemented before the last quarter of 2008. Say if i apply for the working holiday visa now, i.e jan, under the old rules, I'd be able to switch to HSMP in jan 09. But since I came in the UK under the old...
