I dont think so. Extension is made to existing(valid) visa and if the visa is expired then you should go for new application.

Any comments??

Re: How much time I have to remain in UK

I am on H1B in US and due to recent layoffs in my company and no US GC in sight, I am thinking of applying for HSMP Tier 1 skilled worker but might not wish to go there immediately - want it as a backup. It doesn't matter if she had HSMP dependent visa or not. what matters is what is the status of her visa when you apply for ILR. As you said that when she got her WP stamped, her HSMP dependent visa got canceled.

For getting ILR you need to spend 5 years either with WP or/and HSMP(Tier 1). This stay should be continues and any breaks of more than 3 months will reset your counter to 0. Since you had a gap between your WP and HSMP ( permit free training visa ) your ILR counter got reset. Your actual counter st...

No you cant apply as dependent as you are her on WP and not as dependent on her. If your kids are dependent on her visa then kids can apply with their mother for ILR. If kids are dependent on your visa then once your wife gets ILR then kids can register under British citizenship.

You have to show continues earning for 12 months of last 15 months from the date of submitting your application. if you can earn enough point by showing just few months ( say 8 to 10 months) will also be fine provided its continues.

Your WP becomes invalid moment you leave the company which has sponsored you WP. If you are working for new company then you have to have new WP even though the WP is valid till 5 years from the old company.

You can change your employer provided the new employer transfers your work permit.
PBS does not look in to your work permit. It just asses if you can have appropriate points to grant you visa.
