Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi all, long time lurker here with a question about the 'confirmation of address' email. I posted my application on 27 Feb 2020 and haven't received any contact since then. I sent my docs by recorded delivery so I know they were definitely received in Balbriggan; just wanted to know whether anyone ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Sorry I'm not terribly patriotic. I know that my lot is better than that of genuine asylum seekers - my point is about not being recognised as a citizen of a country. It must be awful fleeing persecution and then being subjected to an indefinite wait. I feel like the UK has been pushed over a cliff ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I was just flipping through my new (UK) passport and at the back there is printed a map of the UK isles, however according to this map, the Republic of Ireland appears not to exist!!!!! I would have thought they would at least outline the whole island of Ireland and then shade in the Northern Irelan...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I got my passport today - my British one - so no golden harp on it  exactly 2 weeks after applying. Damn good service though - ultra efficient and hassle-free. I suppose I'll be able to use it to go somewhere - anywhere - just want to start travelling again. It just goes to show how different t...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Congrats Hollyq, I bet it was fab to receive the Irish passport with a golden harp on it. Can't wait until that day comes for me! Seems like in most cases it's taking about 18 months. My British one ran out and that is taking 10 weeks as opposed to the usual 3 - but I can live with that. I guess al...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi, I got my passport (timeline below) but am waiting for my children’s (applied through their fathers citizenship because I wasn’t on the register when they were born). I can see from other posts that they’re by no means near the front of the queue (and I’m happy to be patient) but I’ve seen a few...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I'm just off to the Post Office to sort out my UK passport application - seeing as I won't be getting my Irish passport with a golden harp on it any time yet. With all due respect I think you need to search for friends on Facebook for random chit-chat. I don't think anyone here needs daily updates ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I've just realised my UK passport runs out in a few weeks, so I'm going to apply for a replacement for that - not that I'll be going anywhere soon, it seems. Apparently the timescale for the UK passport is 10 weeks for an online renewal - which doesn't seem that bad to me. I had thought it would be ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

In case it is useful to anyone, this is a reply from the Irish Passport twitter to someone asking for an update on FBR today: Hi, before COVID it took 12 to 18 months to process FBRs, because of the high volume of applications from Brexit and the impact of COVID restrictions. When regular processin...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi All, I have a question I hope you can help me with. I applied in Oct 2019 and my documents received email arrived a few weeks later. I can see that some who applied at the same time are now getting congratulations emails. Although I have competed the online application and sent off my docs I hav...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

My 1st-time paper passport application is finally showing a status of "Processing" in the Passport Tracker. However, the estimated issue date is 17 months away. Really hoping the system will recalibrate and shorten that time estimate. Good luck to all who are waiting. My timeline: FBR: Ap...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

It's good to hear of people getting their passports / FBR. I really hope we can all move forward in due course. I think this is a time to pause and for some parts of life to remain on hold for a it. We will get through it!

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

It's nice to see things moving along again for all of those who got caught in Brexit/Covid lockdowns. I finally did my online passport application yesterday and will be mailing all my docs to Dublin within the week. My best estimate is that I'll probably receive my passport almost exactly 2 years t...

My mistake! The post is of September 2020 ... with recent statements of exasperation, similar to this forum.

My celebratory imported tin of Guinness (I know!) will remain in the fridge. Happy thoughts everyone! :D
Why are you even doing this? This is not April 1st.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Yeah if you send it International Signed For mail - I got proof of signature - then you will be able to track the letter once it reaches Irleand. An Post have an online tracker. What happens is the DFA each morning sign one signature for all the Recorded Delivery letters and packages - so when you d...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

So glad I’ve found this forum as I too am waiting to submit an application for my FBR citizenship, reading these stories makes me realise others are in the same boat. It’s been a very frustrating wait for the last 7 months since the FBR office shut, I have now gathered all the required documentatio...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I've just submitted a list of questions to the DFA, including responses to the following: The total number of Foreign Birth Register (FBR) applications currently waiting to be processed. How many applications are currently being processed each day (as at end June 2021 - early July 2021) How many sta...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

One thing I have come to realise is that there is nothing to gain from stressing out over FBR applications. I had recently got to the point of having panic attacks. I own property in European countries and feel like I have no right over it anymore. The whole thing is very daunting and, dare I say, h...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Another thing is, if certain docs only have a 6-month validity they would essentially be committing to themselves to processing all claims within 6 months from whenever they happen to reopen the offices again - and I doubt that will happen!
