Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Think they are processing early Feb 2020 at the minute. So it's going very slowly... Looks like they have only processed 3 months worth in the last 7 months they have been open for.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I'm trying to sort out my partners application for German citizenship which is a much more convoluted process than the Irish one. I will be about 14 months ahead of him in terms of submitting docs to the relevant places. I'm betting he will have a German passport before I get accepted onto the FBR :D

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

The FBR made an update to their website on the 27th May saying the were spinning up a new team dedicated to FBR. The same page STILL quotes a year to 18 months to process. You would think they would change that. It seems like it's more accurately 2.5 years for some of our posters. It feels slower no...

Re: German Citizenship Query

Can't really comment in detail on this. But, do you know where grandfather was born in Germany? If you have the place and date of birth you could try and contact the local authority responsible for the area today. Their "Standesamt" is normally where this would have been registered, or it...

German Citizenship Query

Hi I wondered if anyone had ever been the following situation when applying for German citizenship, and can maybe offer some pointers on how I can investigate with the German authorities. The scenario is that my partners grandfather was German and left German in 1938 as a child as a result of his fa...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Congratulations. Jan 2020 seems like a whole another era now. Bet you didn't think you would have a global pandemic and a war on European soil to contend with when you submitted your application :D

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I found this info: there were 16,000 applications in 2020 and 11,000 in 2021. Sent off for daughter in December 2020 so suppose I can hope the bulk of the applications were sent early in the year and things might speed up a bit later on. https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/question/2022-01-19/653/...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Fabulous news to share! I just received the address check for the FBR application for my three children. We applied in Dec 2019 and our paperwork receipt email confirmation was dated Jan 27 2020. Congratulations! I love reading about people getting registered. Hope the kids enjoy their new found na...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

It has been a very long time since I (re)started this thread and years since I checked in. Today, I had the notion of doing so only to discover that the FBR section have taken 2 years and 4 months to process an application. Kudos. My own process took up 10 months from FBR application to passport re...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I think my Grandad came over from Ireland to Scotland with his family as a child. My dad was born in Scotland. The reason why I was concerned is that my Grandad fought in WW2 with 3 of his brothers, and I wondered if perhaps he needed to be a British citizen to do that? Or renounce his Irish citize...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I assume they will complete all pre-Covid apps first and that the date order is defined on when documents were received as they have stated on their website for the ones that were submitted during covid lockdown periods. Although you would think if they received an absolute avalanche of apps when th...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Echoing the above poster. I submitted my application form in July 2021 but it wasn't registered on the system until late Nov 2021 when the office reopened. Therefore I am using my docs received date of Dec 2021 as the basis of my countdown. It is frustrating to have to wait so long (although I under...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I messed up the docs for my application in a similar but not quite the same way. I didn't send a certified copy of my passport, only a copy. When I realised my error I got in touch with the FBR and sent in the notarized copy and marked my application number on the envelope. I am still in the queue ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

No issues with lost docs for me. I didn't receive any confirmation email that they had received my docs but I emailed them and they confirmed that they had received them.

I sent mine recorded delivery though. It cost roughly ten pounds but I thought it was worth it for the certainty
