Minor Indian Citizenship if one parent renounces

Seen too many posts lately about members reporting VFS not accepting passport renewal for minor child if even one parent has renounced their citizenship. Please note that VFS is just an outsourced service provider. They do overstep their authority and some officials try to act smart, thinking (wrong...

Re: New born in India to British parents return procedures to UK

You need exit permit from your nearest FRRO office. Once that is stamped on the passport, mo other formalities. To get the exit permit, you will need: - evidence of mother's legal stay in India (OCI in this case) - original birth certificate with name of mother - foreign passport - applicable fees t...

Re: Indian minor's Indian passport validity

Why don't you apply for eVisa and go without renouncing. Once she has her UK passport, you all can renounce together. Using Indian passport will incur penalty of £160 per instance. Here they will count it as two, once for entry to India and again for exit. So cost wise, its better option for eVisa f...

Re: Travel to India with OCI card - UK Passport validity less than 6 months

Per https://www.cgisf.gov.in/page/faq-s-on-oci/ you just need a valid passport and OCI card. Remember that OCI is not a "visa", so passport validity of 6 months rule does not apply. OCI gives you rights close to NRI - who can enter the country on even expired Passport. Of course, foreigner...

Even if you apply for passport in India for minor, you need both parents passport copy and will have the same problem. Hiring a lawyer will be long run process. The same law applies throughout the world. " Indian citizens desiring to renounce the citizenship of India may please note that if an...

Re: Minor Indian Passport Renewal was not accepted at VFS as I have got British nationality

Go to India in summer and renew his under tatkal over there. Let the mother be the one who leads the renewal process and claim parental responsibility if needed. Although, your child does not need a current passport for naturalisation. A current passport is needed for BRP and/or ILR as these are imm...

Re: Renunciation-applied 22 days ago but no confirmation or update on website

It's now more than a month. No update on and acknowledgement. I emailed the High Commission and they are ignoring it. Is there anything else I can do? Assuming ALL the below are true, I would go ahead and apply for OCI with receipt of renunciation. In the background, they will only approve OCI afte...

Hi, I had few questions related to similar topic. My kids have just got british passport and we have travel planned to India soon- planing to apply for evisa for them. 1. My understanding is we can apply for evisa without surrender certificate. Is that right? Correct, you can apply eVisa on British...

You can call VFS to confirm, but most members have reported the option to pay at the counter. You will have to take the original documents with you for verification, even if you had uploaded.

Yes, they don't give emergency travel document but birth or child is an accepted reason, especially since the mothers leave can expire while waiting for the first passport. I personally know those who have given birth in India and travelled on a travel document, although it was within a month of bir...

RoA from India takes longer than Passport application. The officers not only have to check the applicants right to nationality but also verify that a British passport has not been issued. Have you considered applying for am emergency travel document? A birth of child is an accepted "emergency&q...

H will have to take BOTH passports with him for the first trip, especially as you don't know whether they have linked them both in the system.

Can't say much for airlines. Many are even clueless about different types of visas.

Re: Child OCI renewal - HELP

I was referring to underlying passport on which OCI is issued. As long as you have a valid passport from the same country on which the OCI was issued, you can still travel to India with the new passport. You do not need to wait for the new OCI booklet to arrive. They don't necessarily send a new boo...

The update message is one step forward in renewal process. It does not indicate that the new one has been issued yet, there are still some steps to that. Your child's old OCI will still be valid till they issue the new one on the system. For a moment assume you had not applied for renewal, does the ...

Re: Indian minor (stateless ?)

Not sure what the authority of the person who you spoke to is. VFS personnel are not experts or decision makers and I would take that with a pinch of salt. I am sure if I asked a VFS person about visa approvals on Delhi, he would say that half of them are rejected. Which may be factually true, but w...

What you are trying to achieve may not work with the uncertain plan you have. Even if you were to relocate today, by the time you have stayed 10 years in India on OCI, reapply for Indian Citizenship and get it within a week, your child (born in 2020) will be around 14 years. This is assuming all pap...

The lost of documents varies because the circumstances under which people can apply are various as well. Indian citizens who acquired British nationality applying OCI shortly after naturalisation can normally get OCI with just their Indian passport. However those applying based on parents/grandparen...

This has been answered many times on the forum.

Yes, you can apply for visa on your British passport without surrendering or renouncing your Indian citizenship.
