Yes indeed! Push thanks so much..it clarifies a lot of things! I don't understand this Clause 93 - "If the applicant has not finished their studies when they submit their application, we will consider the date of their application to be the end-date of their studies." This means that if yo...

Good question! I am confused..as to options available as tier 1, tier 1 with full time study provision, PSW tier 1 and sponsored tier 2. Actually, we can start to work from June itself since the last term is just a report. But on student visa , I won't be able to work as a full time employee if I ge...

Actually it makes a huge difference. Sorry my period ending was Oct 15 2008 and rates where like high 85/86 those days !! So I was thinking of instead using March 31 2008. But I would include this in the cover letter. Thanks for the tip!! I am still bit confused on the 15 month period part, which is...

But guidance also seems to suggest that we can use period of less than 12 months (point # 87). So in this case, I thought I can use my period as 6 months instead of 12 months. And use OANDA rates at the end of the 6-month period. It's not very clear in the guidance. Any opinions on this? In this cas...

Thanks Push for all your help. I am planning to go for tier-1 soon from student visa. Regarding maintenance funds, I also had funds in my savings account (HSBC Flexi Saver) on top of Current account. So I am planning to send both the statements which together would have the balance needed. My questi...

Vow! Your reply really helped. Thanks John! Now I feel so much relaxed. Let's be clear about this! Council Tax Benefit is means-tested ... it is only every given to those on low income ..... because they have low income! Accordingly any relief or exemption from Council Tax that has nothing at all to...

Even, my child is 3 years old and we would be enrolling her under early years this term. I think the school website didn't probably know much well that early years is available right from 3 years and not 5 years. Thanks Bluespeed for enlightening with the info you provided with you have... I agree w...

Re: Free Entitlement - Public Funds

Even in student visa it is mentioned - no recourse to public funds but you are exempted from council tax and child access to schooling. Check this link: http://www.strath.ac.uk/postgrad/questionsanswers/internationalqa/ They state: "All students, including international students, do not have to...

Re: Council Tax Benefit - Recourse to Public Funds?

Hi Push, John I have another question on council tax. May be as I dig for information you can help me in this. I am applying for tier-1 from student visa. As a student, though we don't have access to public funds but there is an exception on council tax (exempted). Now in Tier-1 application form in ...

Re: how to calculate earnings period?

Thanks so much push for your help. That clarifies a lot for me and how to position my tier-1. Actually I am currently here on student visa. So I didn't had enough maintenance funds before Jan 24 2009 so I was targeting Jan 27 as probable date when my app can reach. Thanks for your tip to apply early...

Can someone please throw light on 15 month window before the date of applying for tier-1? I tried looking for the information but could not get any clear answer. Any inputs would be very helpful! Yep. Seems that is not the option. Thanks sushdmehta for the useful info. Also, for student visa (tier 4 visa), does anyone know what is the safe figure (in pounds) to show for living expenses / maintenance etc. for each dependant? It seems it is less if the place is outside London. I checked with V...

Re: Benefits/Risks while studying on Tier 1 Visa

But even if we get the student visa, we would not be able to use that time period for ILR. So tier-1 still works out better and we can avoid the hassle of going from student visa to IGS to tier-1. I believe you are currently on work permit and in that case it may be better to avoid student visa, if ...

Re: Benefits/Risks while studying on Tier 1 Visa

Nice post! I am in the same situation and would be deciding soon whether to go for student visa or Tier 1. As you mentioned, the pain in student visa is to show proof of funds (mainly in liquid asset). Do you know if it would be fine to deposit the proof amount in one go or do we have to maintain it...
