Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Well, after months of tedious document collecting, today’s the day that I finally mail my FBR package off to the Emerald Isle - except it isn’t. Why? Because when I got home, the ink from my witness’s official stamp, which he had so kindly applied to the back of two of my photos, along with his sig...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

An added complication arose, in that my grandmother's name on her marriage certificate was different to that on her now revised birth certificate and death certificate with the addition of a 'middle name'. I managed to contact the actual church where the wedding was solemnised and confirmed that th...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Right then - update. It seems my first post in weeks from earlier today, bitching about the GRO, has had the desired effect - the last of the certificates arrived in the mail today. So I now have: Irish grandfather’s birth, death, & marriage cerificates. All relevant dates and first, last, &...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Has anyone else had issues with obtaining certificates from the GRO in the UK? The HSE in Dublin were extremely efficient and delivered all the certificates I needed for my Irish paternal grandfather in good time, sometimes with limited information. The GRO, conversely, are really dragging their hee...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

What on earth is all this talk of notarisation? I thought the idea was the witness just signs your stuff and that's that. I don't remember anything in the instructions or on the form that mentioned notarisation. There isn't any need to notarize anything; it would seem that it's just an extra step t...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

No. There is a list of people that can be witnesses besides a notary public. Being a notary public has nothing to do with being the witness. If you choose a notary public as your witness that is fine. However, most likely he needs to have a different notary public stamp the applicant ID photocopy. ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

"If applicable" just means" if married". So if married you send it. People seem to try to interpret this many ways but that's it. jgclancy Understood. Well in that case, I suppose I'd better send my own marriage certificate too then (even though she's my third wife, and has abso...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hello everyone, I'll soon be applying for Irish citizenship, and I just have a question about some documentation. First off, let me spell out my personal situation here: Applying Via: Grandfather, born in Ireland. His Irish Child: My father, born in the UK. So I know I qualify, no issue there. With ...
