Applied on 3rd June

I applied on the 3rd of June.
Called Home Office today.
Was told that my application is currently being processed and it will take between 1 to 2 weeks if the application is not a complex one.
I was also told that they have started processing applications upto the 10th of June.

Guys,

My HSMP will be due for extension on the 3rd of Sep and I am planning to apply towards the end of July or early August.
Can I legally stay in the country if I have applied for an extension 15 days prior to the expiry of my HSMP.

Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
