Wow 2difficult that sure was very quick.

I'm sure it doesn't make a different in what race/colour the people are who are applying for ILR - for example my husband is a white South African and I am white and British and it still took a good 6 months for his ILR to be approved :)

Got a card from the post office today to say we have something that needs to be collected and signed for. Could it be OH's ILR? Fingers crossed. Letter received from UKBA on the 21st April to say they'd received the application so it's been a long stressful wait. Will let you know if it is tomorrow.

My OH's spouse visa was issued in South Africa end of March 2008 (can't remember exact date) and we arrived in the UK on the 7 April 2008. We sent in his ILR application on the 18th March 2010 (within the 28 day period) and although it was returned once due to the photos being incorrect (second set ...

So it can be done then. I wasn't sure if I should try that or not but at least I know. Only going overseas in July/August and I'm holding thumbs that all the documents come back before then with of course the approved ILR:)

Sammie I'm in the same predicament as you, I also need my passport back but I'm taking no chances so have applied for an Irish passport in the meantime just in case. Sent my OH's in on the 18th March and monies deducted by 20th March.

I've reread the application form and it say's 6 letters (bills) addressed to both or each over a period of 2 years so I've taken out some of the documents but that's still a wad of payslips cos OH gets paid weekly so weekly slips for a 2 year period is a lot!

I'll be applying for OH's ILR in a couple of days and I've just got all the documentation together. Did you make copies of everything sent? Reason I ask is that there's well over 300 pages of documentation and it'll cost an absolute fortune. Did you sent in two years worth of payslips for both your ...

You'd probably have to do what we did. I lived in SA for 26 years and am married to a South African. We had to apply for a settlement visa for him (I've got a British passport) before we could move back to UK. Visa is valid for two years and the month before it expires you can then apply for ILR. Yo...

I also have a British Passport and my South African husband has a settlement visa in his passport which is only valid for two years. You have to apply of ILR before the visa expires and you can only do so a month before it expires, no sooner. We've just started the process of getting his study books...

Irish passport for South African husband

My OH's 2 year settlement visa expires beginning of April and I've put the wheels in motion by ordering the Life in the UK books and was planning on making an appointment within a couple of weeks as well as getting all the documentation together for the Indefinite Leave to Remain application form. S...

Thank you whirly for your helpful reply. His visa will expire in March 2010 so I'll keep an eye on the up and coming changes. Wanderer you need to take a chill pill, you sound way too stressed out and it seems to me you like to take it out on new comers. I didn't in any way ask you to do any work fo...

2 year Spousal Visa

My South African husband came to the UK with me on a spousal visa which is valid for 2 years. What, when, where and why do we have to do before it expires???
