I am in the same situation but I could not see dept no on my wife gnib card. That field is blank on the card. I need to fill section 2.8 on form 8 of naturalization. I am stuck at this question and not getting anywhere.

You never mentioned in which year you got married and on what visa you are staying currently in Ireland i.e stamp4 eu fam. And when did your wife seperated with you. These are very important. Did you finished 5 yrs stay in Ireland after you getting married.

Hi Anusuri Particulrly u don't need the department's letter but u could be asked for that on any airport. If u dont have this lstter don't try to travel to EU coutries without ur wife or withgout this letter. u could be asked for the letter and may be not.... try to get direct flights to and fro to...

yes there is no sticker required, the GNIB card shows ur stamp 4EUFAM NEED NO STICKER but there would be a stamp on ur passport which shows the expirty date and issue date of the visa and all the major airports now about. but for ur own safety while traveling keep ur marriage cert + the approval le...

I doubt they can legally require ID unless they force IDing onto their own citizens. They have already approved and issued the Residence Card (but you have not picked it up), and clearly the EU spouse presence was not required for that.
