I spoke to another lady from the council today who thinks that he may well be able to go onto my application. Obviously he can only do so once he has been granted visa clearance. She said that if I were to rent privately, I would only be considered by the council for help if the accommodation was un...

Had a chat with someone from my local council who more or less said what you have, that it will be extremely difficult for them to put her son on my housing application. To be honest, I dont really mind that too much, its more or less what I expected. However, its what happens after the two years ar...

Thanks for the reply. So, the only realistic option is to rent for two years (which we can do but our savings will take a hit) and then apply for a council home? How long could the wait be for the house (once they have ILR)? What I am really getting at is whether we might be prioritised given his co...

Housing and disability

Haven't posted in a while and am lost as to how to proceed. I am UK citizen. My wife is from Argentina, her son is 17. He is disabled and confined to a wheelchair. Got married in Argentina at end of 2004. Due to lack of work in Argentina, I was here from July 08-July 09 (wife came over and visited f...

Leaving a dependant child behind...

My last post on this forum was some time ago, since then my wife has been very ill but has now made a full recovery. I am a British citizen, my wife is from Argentina, her son (from her 1st marriage is also Argentine). We have been married for nearly 6 years, although we have not spent more than 4 y...

Him is my wife's son (I know it sounds very cold to say it like that, but although I call him my son, in the eyes of the law he is not). Third party support would be in the form of accommodation only. It would be for my wife and I. After 6 months or so we plan to rent a house suitable for three pers...

Any thoughts? Would there be any forseeable issues with us leaving the child for a year and then my wife returning to make the application for him?

Plan UK 1000th draft

Me - 35 years old British citizen. Her - 37 years old Argentine Him - 14 years old Argentine - disabled. Married Nov 2004, longest spell together outside of country 3 years. After taking into consideration advice I have received in previous threads I have decided to return to the UK, find employment...

Thanks for the information. So we would apply for a normal spouse visa but mention that we have been married since November 2004. Since we were married, for economic reasons, I spent exactly a year in the U.K while she was in Argentina. I have kept receipts of western union transactions, phonecards ...

Life in the UK test

I have been married to my Argentine wife for over 4 years. We are both currently in Argentina and intend to settle in the U.K. I have been told that if we both enter the country together she can apply for ILR. However, she has not passed the language or the life in the U.K test. Can she take the tes...

Thanks Vinny, it seems that if she spends 6 or 7 months in the U.K and then goes back to make and await the outcome of her son's application it shouldn't be an issue. Any idea on how long we must rent a house before making her son's application? You see, the longer we stay with my parents then the m...

More questions: My wife will (hopefully) enter on a settlement visa. As you know when we have saved a bit more money (say 6 months) she would then go back to Buenos Aires in order to make the application for her son, how long can she spend over there whilst we wait for the decision? Also, in case of...

Thank you Rozen for your kind words. I am now in Argentina with my wife and her son and we are making plans to get legal documents drawn up so that we can show that my wife has sole responsibilty of the child - the father should have no problem with this. As I mentioned, for purely financial reasons...

The grandparents would be looking after him purely to give us a chance to establish ourselves before trying to bring him over. This would sound like she doesnt have sole responsibilty to the immigration office? The grandparents are, well, getting on in years, so obviously that would not be a long te...

Thanks for the reply. The child is 14, so we have until he is 18 I understand. The Father has had nothing to do with the child since the age of 1. The child is disabled and lives with us and his grandparents in Argentina. In order to be able to make the application we need to save up a little bit mo...

Thanks for the reply. We would like to stagger the applications. My wife would come to the UK with me(if approved), work for 6 months, and then we would make the application for him. Is their any disadvantage in doing it this way, as opposed to making the applications at the same time?

How many applications?

If I am applying for my wife and her dependant son to come and live with me in the U.K, do I need to make one or two applications? At £585 a go you can understand the question!

Thanks

Firstly, thanks for the response, much appreciated. Am I right in saying that: 1, I would need to make the application for my wife and stepson at the same time. 2, That it would be best to do that in Argentina. 3, That the application would be for ILR and if granted they would get no access to publi...

Advice needed - a bridge too far?

Hello all I wondered if you may be able to offer me some advice, or at least point me in the right direction. I am a U.K citizen and my wife and her son are from Argentina. We currently live in Buenos Aires but would like to live permanently in the U.K. However, we have been told that this would not...
