I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's fine. I would think that the passport only needs to be current if you want to travel on it. The Home Office should only need the passport to check that your husband has had ILR for long enough, and the length of his absences from the country, and his date of fir...

That really depends on your application - is there any reason to suspect he might not be successful? You should bear in mind that to get a UK passport you have to go through two applications, and both take time: 1. It takes up to 6 months, I believe, for the Home Office to approve citizenship applic...

There is a good booklet available on the HO website which details what is and is not public funds. I don't have the link to it sorry, but you should be able to search to find it. Generally, anything funded from national insurance contributions (such as the NHS) is NOT considered to be "recourse...

Yes I'd call them - I thought it was normal for payment to be taken straight away (ie within a day or so), then an acknowledgment letter a day or two after that. I've heard of a couple of other people in the same position as you, but mostly not ... best to be safe rather than sorry.

But also be aware that parents who themselves only have citizenship "by descent" cannot usually pass it on to their children.

Hi I am also about to apply for my child using MN1. Oddly, I don't see any requirement to prove that I have ILR - all the documents that I have to send seem to relate to my child. Surely the fact that I have ILR is critical to the success of the application - am I missing something? Does the HO just...

That really annoys me. The people who wrote that article, and the people who have commented on it, don't seem to realise that the UK has done exactly the same thing to us over here in the UK. Talk about double standards.

I have some workmen at my house, so it's possible they signed for it, but there is also a standard looking mail frank in the corner of the envelope. I was a bit surprised, given tha...

You have an excellent memory! Yes I was concerned re IRIS, so opted for post rather than PEO just to be on the safe side, and it turned out fine. I agree re the worthwhile-ness of PEOs - there now seem to be several people who have been approved via post in 2 weeks, so my 4 weeks might actually be c...

They can only deal with straight-forward cases at a PEO. This sounds far from it - and yes, you are very likely to have your time re-set. Maternity leave can be a justification for time away from work, not time outside the country. I'd speak to an immigration solicitor, and if you do apply, I'd do i...

Hi all

Just cancelled my ILR appt (myself and 2 dependants) at Croydon on 1 July.

So if you give them a ring, you might be able to get it.

I wouldn't have thought you'd need one. Covering letters are good for postal applications, since you can add explanations where things aren't obvious, to help the caseworker along. But for PEOs, you're there in person to do that ...

DK79 - Re appointments - you will be lucky to get an appointment anywhere. They can't be booked further than 6 weeks in advance, and every morning at 9am there's a scuffle as everyone calls, trying to get an appointment. If you are offered one, take it. There are quite a few threads on this. Re IRIS...

I recall reading about someone who couldn't be approved on the same day, and received a call. The person posting said they were pleasantly surprised to be asked whether they wanted to pick up the passports, or have them sent out in the post/courier. As for how long it takes - I guess that depends on...
