Do your homework on this one, as it can get really sticky very quickly. A US Green card holder can apply to sponsor a spouse, but the wait is currently 4-5 years. During that time, your wife will raise their suspicion at the POE and she will have to prove beyond a doubt that she still maintains ties...

I'm assuming you're coming over from the USA. Have you checked into the paperwork hassle of moving your cats over here? Just to warn you, you must start 7 months in advance. I did it 2 years ago for two small dogs from Canada and the vet bills were about $1500 and the airline also charged about $150...

IN my experience they are getting very strict on this issue. I had a green card and in 2007 was posted back to the UK for a year. Each time I returned to the USA during that year for business trips I was questioned about how long I was away. I still had a house, mortgage, and a job to return to so I...

I've spoken to a lot of people that are thinking of leaving....mainly recent graduates. Personally I don't see much light at the end of the tunnel, not for teh next 3 years anyways. I'm lucky though, I have a well paid stable job, can wait for house prices to drop before buying, and if it all goes p...

From my research (do your own, don't trust me on this), you the foreign spouse cannot enter the US at all if your spouse is a green card holder. Visiting the US to be with your spouse shows intent other than just visiting. I don't think it should be a problem to visit, if the foreign spouse is able...

Unfortunately, as you say, being a Green card holder puts your partner in a uniquely disadvantaged place with regards to sponsorship. A green car dholder can sponsor a spouse, but hte process takes a very long time. I went through the same thing, married a Canadian while I was living in the US on a ...

I am in the same situation, LPR but with UK and Canadian passports. Generally if I am entering from Canada, I use the canadian one, and if I am flying in from the UK, I use the UK one. I've been doing that for 4 years and have never had a problem and I've seen no evidence from them (in terms of ques...

I have it on good authority (contacts high up in the US embassy) that there have been very very few applications (<100) for this visa this year, of course because of the economy. So it's not exactly competitive. But I also believe that it doesn't allow you to do any changes to your visa, and it is e...

I can answer #4. You can search for work in the if you are a Canadian PR, but being a PR and not citizen doesn't give you any special rights.

Best cities for jobs (not sure about IT) would be Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, adn (if you speak French) Montreal

The US and Canada have NAFTA (NOrth American Free Trade Agreement) visas that allow citizens to work in the other country as long as they are in a certain job category....and lecturer is one of them. I believe it automatically allows the foreign spouse (not boyfriend) to join them immediately. I did...

Hey mixedbag. We are currently in Ireland. I had been transferred for work to the UK (London) in August 2007, and at the end of the year decided we didn't want to go back (we'd been living in the US for several years). I was UK-born and Canadian raised, so going back to the 'homeland' was a really e...

We received the approval letter today (Tuesday) so all is good.

However, it is obvious that it wasn't sent the day they stated in their email, and perhaps my email stimulated them to get to work on it.

So the moral here is to get onto them as the deadline aproaches.

Thanks everyone!

Vinny - Thanks so much for the info...Much appreciated! I will also investigate the Ireland possibility. What a great idea. Thank you both. MB I'll attest to the Irish route being quite easy (so far). I'm British/Canadian and my wife is Canadian. I got a job offer in Ireland and we decided to take ...

I emailed justice on Friday morning and they responded within 5 hours saying that a registered decision letter had been sent the day before (Thursday). Nothing has arrived as of Monday morning!

Sorry, I just posted a similar thread without realizing this was already going.

My wife's 6 month wait has now expired (May 5) without word from justice. I assume it will be coming soon but have heard a few horror stories.

Stamp 4 expired with no GNIB response

Hello all, My wife (Canadian) and I (UK) have been in Ireland for about 9 months. We submitted the EU-1 application about 7 months ago, fairly quickly got the letter saying they had all the documentation they needed, trooped on down to Burgh Quay and got my wife the 6 month stamp and immigration car...
