British Citizen - Adopted in 1953

Hi All, hoping that someone can assist me in another one of my queries as you have all been so helpful in the past. This relates to my mother, who was legally adopted in South Africa in 1953 by a British Citizen (mother) and lived in the UK as a child. Timeline of events are as follows : *Born in 19...

Hi All, Just thought I would update everyone on my visa situation. I contacted a reputable immigration solicitor, my South African visa agent who assisted me originally with my UK Ancestry and UKBA. UKBA and the immigration solicitor have said the same thing - cannot switch in country and I have to ...

Thanks. Refer to bullet points below from the link you provided and my understanding is that I could do the switch as UKA was the initial entry clearance I was issued with and entered the UK with. This page explains that an applicant may not switch into the UK ancestry category, and what this means....

Thanks PaperPusher I would only use a reputable solicitor. The bottom line is that I am trying to do the right and legal thing. I don't understand why I would be refused extension of leave to remain on a UK Ancestry if this is a category I qualify for, have all the paperwork for and have held before...

Thanks Kitty. I am trying to understand the legal jargon of the rules you posted. From what I can gather, as I originally entered the UK in 2008 on an UKA visa, which I had for over a year, I could apply in country for a UKA extension to stay, even though current visa is spousal, which I have had fo...

Many thanks for your reply and I do understand what you are saying as it is pretty much the conclusion I have come to myself. In terms of going back to South Africa and reapplying, this would be impossible due to the cost of two of us having to return and has an affect on school and work. The UKBA w...

Dependent Spouse and Daughter - ILR & BC

Hi All I am in the process of planning and saving for our eventual ILR & BC apps. Timelines are as follows : Sept 2007 - married British Citizen in South Africa Oct 2008 - Applied and received UK Ancestry visa (cheaper option at the time) Dec 2008 - Husband and I arrived in the UK. Left my daugh...

Visa Category Switch to Spousal

Hi all I would just like to let people know that this past week my daughter and I have successfully switched from a UK Ancestry to a Spousal Visa, even though my husband is claiming CB for my daughter. We had a premium appointment booked in Croydon and even though we were there for 6.5 hours, the st...

Hi. I thought I would let the advisors on my topic know that I have contacted the visa agent at First Contact Visas (SA) that did my UK Ancestry visa and his reply to my sister-in-laws problem is as follows : With regards to your query, the difficulty lies in that the ECO was not informed. This esse...

Thanks. That is what i thought, however, as her marriage date is 2 weeks prior to the issue date of the unmarried partner visa and her married name passport was issued 1 month after the visa in 2008, will this not potentially create a problem when she applies for a spousal visa, as it will then be o...

Unmarried Partner Visa/ILR - but married before visa receive

Hi I am writing on behalf of my sister in law, a South African. She applied for an unmarried partner visa in January 2008 (8 year relationship with my brother, a BC). Visa was declined and they appealed. They tried to circumvent rules and thought if they got married they could get to UK via Ireland....
