Re: OCI-Birmingham

Thanks Shadow Love. I did it by person and an 'acknowledgement' slip was given. So the next I would hear is when the whole process is completed and the OCI is ready to be stamped? Has that been the experience for CGI Birmingham applicants? Anyone?? Umm, can't answer for Birmingham, but I submitted ...

Re: OCI-Birmingham

I I saw a lot of posts were OCI have been granted in around 3 months time. Its been 2.5 months since I submitted to CGI-Birmingham (middle of March, in person) and it has not even been acknowledged. Has this been the experience for other who applied in Birmingham. A friend of mine who applied a wee...

I know of someone who went to the High Commission to get the OCI stamped on his passport approx a month after the "Docs received in London" date. So rest assured, the HCI will not throw away your application - within 2 weeks at least. You're free to mail them and advise them of your trave...

From the above replies, I'm guessing my OCI would be arriving in London around the 13th of June, as my photo scanned date was 13th of May. However, I will be in India then, until the 4th of July. Will the embassy keep hold of my details, until I can pick them up after I return to the UK? Does anyone...

[quote="AkashS"]Many people shouts about that £90 (or equv to Rs. 7000/-) fees in order to surrender their Indian Passport should they get British or any other country citizenship. They shout that Indian Govt don’t care about their people. How the hell on earth you are “Our Peopleâ€

Re: Postal order and postal address

Thanks for the information. Like I said in my earlier post, I only think that this is the case. If there have been members on this forum who have successfully surrendered their passport and received their SC, then I would suggest you check with them. I went to the HCI only because I did not receive ...

Re: Postal order and postal address

As far as I know, I "think" you can't apply by post. You can receive the SC by post by giving a self-addressed envelope, but whomever I spoke to whilst I was at the embassy said that this needed to be done in person. But you can try sending them an e-mail to clarify this. Also, the HCI web...

Well, I don't think I spoke about any other Nationality but British. This post was created to provide information for people living in the UK (and as far as I remember, Ireland does not constitute part of the UK - Northern Ireland does). As a British Citizen, one has to surrender their Indian passpo...

Yes, You can travel to any other country and surrender it, but two things - One, you will have to hang around there for a week, because they don't give you the SC straightaway. You can only collect it after a week. Two, you will still not get your passport back. You will only be able to surrender it...

I don't think the HCI is bound by any legal obligations or is governed by an organisation like a "Watchdog" or "Consumer Rights", the reason being that it is not a corporation. It is more political and bureacuratic than a service provided to public. Also, the law of England/UK do...

Re: return of surrendered passports

Like I said before, the surrender fee is only charged by the Indian High Commission in the UK, and no where else in the world! You can walk into any other embassy and surrender it for free (apparently)! So why fleece the British Indians?! Also, I read through the Passport Act twice, and you are righ...

I personally think that after the ordeal you go through for getting an OCI/PIO/Tourist Visa, you are so relieved to have everything sorted that you don't care anymore! You are right in saying that the passport is automatically void once one attains foreign nationality, so I don't know why the need t...

Oh, and guess what?? This £90 surrender certificate fee is ONLY applicable in the UK! One can surrender their Indian passport anywhere in the world for free, even in the USA, but not in UK!!! Talk about daylight robbery!

And So The Story Goes.. (Surrender Certificates)

After not having received much response about certificates and OCI from this portal, not because people weren't being helpful, but the confusion surrounding this issue, I decided to check it out for myself. For all you newbie Brits, this is the information straight from the horse's mouth! I went to ...

Re: Surrender Certificate

Hello All, I was wondering if anyone could help on this - Can I surrender my Indian passport by post? or does it have to be in person? I have mailed the HCI in London regarding the process, but have had no response, and it's been a week now. I have looked through every website of HCI (even of Franc...

From what I last read on the HCI London website, it is still £90. No changes made to the fee as such.

Surrendering Indian Passport - Penalties & Advantages??

I acquired British Citizenship in September 2009, and received my British Passport in November 2009. I had to travel to France on my Indian Passport in Sept 2009 AFTER receiving my citizenship. I wasn't aware that my Indian Passport was then void, as I did not have any other travel document, and the...

British Citizenship & Indian Passport - Help!!

Hello all, I had to resort to writing my question here, after receiving dubious answers from most "knowledged" people/websites I'd asked/read on Citizenship issues. My problem(s) is/are: 1) I am an Indian citizen, holding an Indian passport, who was granted British Citizenship last week. I...
