BRP expiring and British Citizenship

Hi,

Can you apply for British Citizenship if the BRP you’re including with the application expires a few weeks after you’ve made the application? Does the BRP have to be valid the whole time the application is considered or does it not matter?

Thanks,

G

Address change AFTER getting ILR?

Hi guys, My wife got ILR in September 2012. A few months ago we moved to a new house and I can't seem to find any guidance at all on whether we need to tell UKBA. There's an address change form online for those on points-based visas, but nothing for ILR. Going to try and call a number later to see i...

It's unclear who, if this comes in, this will affect - will it just be students or will those with permanent residency/ILR and jobs have to cough up too? It may be 'standard' in some countries, but I'd hate to live in a place where those out of work couldn't get free medical help. What's even more d...

I see what you're saying. Our marriage is recognised in the UK, but as it will be taking place in America it isn't legally recognised in the UK. We can't sign a register after or give notice before as that's only done in the UK. Also, the marriage certificate will say that we are now married, but it...

Hi Jambo, Cheers for your thoughts. She came here in September 2007 to get her Masters qualification. She then transferred to the old Post Study Work visa and by the time that came to an end we'd been living together two years so we went for FLR(M). ILR was obtained in September 2012. We've never lo...

Name changes, citizenship and BRP(RC) -need advice

Hi guys, I'm British, my fiancée is American with ILR under Unmarried Partner and we both live together in the UK. We're getting married in the US in October (she has more family than me!) and after that she will be taking my surname. Last night we looked into changing the name on her US passport an...

Just to add - our documents were in two folders. One contained our original documents and the other the photocopies. Every document was in a plastic wallet and we'd used colour dividers with labels to create sections for passports, absences, finances and documents. It helped us see exactly what we h...

ILR SET(M) success at Cardiff PEO

Hi everyone, First of all, thanks to everyone here who has provided guidance over the last few years, your help has been greatly appreciated. Myself (British born citizen) and my fiancée (American) had our PEO appointment this morning. We live in Manchester, so it was a bit of a trek but it was the ...

Yeah, I remember! It's a nightmare, but it's worth it if you can check really frequently. Since looking 3 days ago, I've seen four or five cancellations pop up but only one was in the specific week we wanted.

When does your visa expire?

I found that checking around midnight worked - they seem to be released then and there's usually a few to pick from if you check a few times.

I got an appointment yesterday in the 42 day window. They do come up, you just have to be quick as they're on there for a couple of minutes at most. I'm sure a lot of it is luck too.

I was checking every 10-15 minutes for pretty much three days before I got mine.

Good luck!

Hi nijels, Sounds like my story! My girlfriend studied here, we lived together, applied for our unmarried partner visa two years ago and have our appointment for ILR in a couple of weeks. Regarding your questions: -SET(M) is the correct form -For us, applying in person at a PEO makes more sense as m...

Cancellations? Advice please!

Hi guys, Does anyone have an idea how likely it would be to get a PEO appointment at any office (except Belfast) between 13th-21 September? I don't know how frequently cancellations turn up on the system. We had booked next Friday but there have been some complications with travelling for work after...

Original copies AND photocopies?

My fiancee and I are applying for ILR as Unmarried Partners next week at Liverpool PEO. It should be a very straightforward application as we have tons of letters/documents to show and everything else that's required, including a letter from her boss showing the time spent outside the UK on business...

How early can we book for a PEO appointment

My girlfriend's 2 year probationary period is up towards the end of September and we'd like to go for the same-day service as we did last time (her job requires her to travel so having a passport back quickly helps). We did this for the FLR(M) visa but I can't remember how early we began looking for...

I think that's what a lot of us are wondering. Fingers crossed it's a case of 'if you apply under the old system then it's the same for ILR', but no one knows. We're due to apply for ILR in September, so I'm hoping that's the case.

That threshold is madness, which is why I'm not sure it'll get through. Lib Dems are already cheesed off with the Tories over other things, so fingers crossed this is something they fight for. I don't know if it will affect those due to apply for ILR, but according to the letter I and others have re...

Sorry, that sounds a bit selfish of me. This is good news for people who want to get in now before the door potentially closes. I'm still thinking UKBA will announce that those who applied for a marriage visa before the rule comes in will be fine when it comes to ILR (apply under the current rules n...

'Later this year' sounds like a significant delay if that's when they're going to announce the new rules. That's annoying, I'd rather know now.

You never know though, they might bring in new rules in time for the original implementation period of April. They'd look silly if they didn't.

Here's Damian Green's speech from earlier today in case anyone is interested. Nothing really new there and no news yet on when the final changes will be announced, how they'll be implemented and who they will apply to (i.e. those entering the UK after April 2012) http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/media-c...

I don't know if it helps to add that she is on another business trip to Amsterdam in 2 weeks that doesn't stop in Ireland, so her passport will be stamped when she gets there and comes back.

Travelling from Ireland to the UK - no stamp?

Hi, My girlfriend and I will be applying for ILR this year as we're currently on the FLR(M) visa as unmarried partners. She went to Boston last week on a business trip and she switched flights in Dublin. The same happened on the way back and she mentioned today that her passport was stamped in Dubli...

Sorry, to clarify that I mean to point out that this might become a reality - it hasn't yet happened or may not, but people should be aware it could.
