By law, you should enter and leave the UK with a British passport.
In practice it will not be a problem: no-one knows that you are a British citizen, and even if so, no-one will stop you from travelling just because
you didn't yet get your red passport.
After all, the UK is a civilized country !

My bet it that they will change drastically the rules for the ILR such that fewer people will be able to obtain it. As for citizenship for ILR holders: I believe that it is for the interest of the UK to give ILR holders a British citizenship, but the feeling is that the one-year period between the t...

Re: TIMELINE AFTER NATURALISATION APPLICATION SUBMISSION

Dude, if you knew that you need your passport, what didn't you use the NCS service ??? Is anyone there who was waiting his/her application more than 7 weeks. I did apply on 26/09/2010. Still waiting for the approval. Mate, I have been waiting for 9 weeks and 2 days. As I have said before, I called U...

The citizenship certificate is the needed document. You don't have to wait for
the passport.
(a passport is a silly document that enables a person to travel. a person can be
a British citizen without a passport).

mashroom1, you can apply for a British passport whenever you wish to do so. There is no time limit on that. However, once you attend the ceremony and acquire a British citizenship, you should use a British passport to leave and enter the UK. A simple solution is to arrange your citizenship ceremony ...

My understanding is that as long as the total number of absence days during the five years prior to the application is less than 450 days, you are OK.

I am actually quite amused by the discussion about my IQ:
I am a professor of mathematics, specializing in algebraic topology ...
(my question was indeed a bit silly -it can happen to anyone, even to math professors !)

They send it via second class royal mail. It usually takes 5 days. There is a slim chance that the royal mail lost it.

Thanks for the answers. I just wandered why it sometimes takes
10 days between the decision and the letter informing about it.

Special thanks to dee74 for being so rude.

Could someone explain please the difference between:

Date UKBA made decision

and

Date of receipt of approval letter

Which information is contained in "UKBA made decision" ? do UKBA tell what the
decision is, in their first mail ?

thanks, Ed

I thought that assisting a cancer patient goes under a compassionate reason ... or not ?
Actually, they don't explain what do they mean by compassionate reasons.
Anyone here knows ?

Thanks.
I know how to prepare my application.

My question about the documents meant which special/further documents
should I provide to justify my long absence and to increase my chances
for a succesful application given the special circumstances.

a question about discretion on absences from the UK

Hi, for compassionate reason (serious illness of my mum), I spent more than 100 days outside the UK during the final year. I wonder whether I should apply. While the absences in the final year is less then 180 and altogether I was absent for less than 450 days, I wonder what are my chances. I would ...

Claiming benefits before ILR

many people don't know that certain nationals can claim child benefit even before ILR is granted and even when there is a stamp "no recourse to public funds" in their passport. If you are a citizen of a country with a biliteral social security agreement with the UK you may be able to claim...

How much are you weeling to pay for the ILR ?

I paid recently almost £1900 for the ILR + solicitor fee ! The govenrment raises the fee on average every two years. I wonder how much each one of you guys is willing to pay for it ? Imagine that ILR would cost £10,000. Would you pay it or leave the country ? I'm asking because to my opinion the f...

Re: ilr

Hi, I couldn't get an appoitment either and hence had to contact a solicitor (I need my passport as I travel frequently). The solicitors have plenty of appoitments. In facts the reason that it is difficult (impossible) to get an appoitment is that the solicitors take all of them. That's crap, but w...
