Money taken: 18th April (Officer called to say bank transaction was denied
and I had to quickly send in a postal order same day)
Biometric: 25th June
Visa received: 14th July

Call as many times as possible until u get somebody knowledgeable. I did this and eventually I get someby with common sense. Appeal process can be lengthy and can be very quick. Since there is no standard procedure, you will get a letter as soon as a date is fixed. I will suggest you choose court hearing option as it is faster.

I don't thibk so. if you are a full time student, you cannot apply for HSMP as you need to have worked fulltime for the 12 previous months. I will advise to continue to work and when you have your masters, apply for HSMP
