It is very strange that you didn't get call in letter until now. HO's response is very slow.

In my opinion , you should send your passport without call in letter. So just keep contact them.

Waiting time for your visa application or appeal count as a legal resident. It is not an overstayer.

I sent initial appeal letter to AIT on 30th Nov 2009. And I got a letter for hearing date from AIT on 7th Dec 2009.
