The real reason behind the increase in ILR qualifying period

I had an interesting conversation today with a leading immigration lawyer. I asked him to explain the real reason behind the recent change. According to him the real reason has nothing to do with the official reason - adopting European norms. The UK has persistently chosen to opt out of the European...

1. No effect on WP application but might affect FLR(IED) application as you have to show sufficient funds so as not to recourse to public funds.

2. You have 28 days to find new employment starting on the date you leave your current employer.

You can have as much recourse to public funds as you wish after you get the ILR. Take every penny your hands can grab - after all you've been working very hard for it. I am, for example, paying something like £30,000 tax per annum to help finance some trashy single mums get free council housing. I w...

They will simply be seconded to deal with FLR(IED) extension applications instead of SET(O) forms. No one is going to be made redundant there.

You are having a very premature rejoice. You can rest assured that the criteria will be tested against a big sample of existing migrant profiles in HO database to ensure that hordes of migrants will not land here.

I also think that the change to the ILR qualifying period was mainly influenced by the HO desire to collect more fees from immigrants. It was also influenced by the need to ensure an overall natural reduction in the number of migrants qualifying for settlement. The reason the HO gave for the change ...

It's a completely different story. The migrants who work in Dubai mainly do so in unskilled / menial jobs. They are told in the first place that under no circumstances will they get a permanent status in that country.

These people will not even be able to get a visitor's Entry Clearance to the UK.
