Indian High Commission needs a course on customer service

... A painful experience. I filled in the online application for OIC and as per www.hcilondon.com, I printed and filled in the second part by hand. I stood in a queue amidst utter chaos at the embassy for over 3 hours to return empty handed. On explaining the purpose of my visit, I was asked to stan...

Chess,

I dont think Hunter can resort to public funds.

Hunter,

Rules are not clear on gaps in employment for HSMP But certainly it is important that you have a job at the time of applying for your ILR.

hopefulkd,

Requesting for information is normal, but six months no reply is somewhat too long. Why dont you contact them via email or phone for the status? Details are on the website.

Good luck

When we say "declared" that means we have paid tax on it. Am I correct? Cheers. Normally tax is deducted at source by your employer and as long as you only receive salary, the employer will deduct appropriate amount at source and ensure all monies payable to the IT authorities by you duri...

Unless it is an intracompany transfer, the employer has to show that he has tried hiring someone locally before sponsoring a workpermit. So even if they decide to sponsor a workpermit, they need to do the legwork in showing that they have attempted hiring someone locally. (ie. adverts/interviews). T...

Stan, Having property/Investments in the UK would help. Also if this is short term and you are leaving family behind, there should not be much trouble entering UK. Note that if you live overseas for over 2 years, you can always apply for returning residents permit although I am not sure how easy tha...

Re: Exchange rate from US to UK

The current exchange rate of the dollar to the pound is killing me on the points. I'm showing no points for my $60K US converting over to the UK. How did you work around this? is it a must have to get employer recommendations? Thanks! I think you are looking for an exchange rate of 1.71 for a £35K ...

Yana, On entry at any time after ILR, the immigration officer will check your residence for two years prior to date of latest entry. The period doesnt start from any particular date but is calculated backwards from the date of any entry into the United Kindgom. So, in your case it will be two years ...

Maybe worth just sending it first and a few days later following up on the phone for confirming receipt. Anyways its only positive information and adds value to your application so there is no harm.

In my opinion, if you ask first, you leave that tiny chance they may say 'no'.

Chess, I am afraid, I beg to differ. I have a US visa on a passport that expired in 1999. I am still using it for entry into the US. This passport also had my UK workpermit, which I never transferred on the new passport. Based on my experience, I am sure it should be fine, as long as you carry both ...
