English Test Statement of Results

Hi there, my husband took the ESOL PET in preparation for his ILR application but as he applied just before the change in rules in October 2013 he didn't need to use it. This year he is able to apply for citizenship. The problem is that on the statement of results, despite the certificate saying pas...

I'm not sure if it makes much difference whether it's from Alex or Cairo. The applications from Alex have to go to the Cairo VAC anyway and I assume they're taken to the same visa section.

Applied 13th Sept, my husband checked online this morning and found the status had changed and went to get the paperwork this afternoon! I really can't believe it. Becks1981 - don't worry, maybe a different ECO was dealing with ours so maybe working at different speeds. Maxiy - I think it's 2 years,...

Hi, my hubby applied in September - we got the call on 27th October - still no news or change to status. It's Eid out there at the moment so there probably won't be anything done until Thursday at the earliest.
I'm really so worried. (From Egypt too)

Visiting Visa housing benefit

Do I have to tell the housing benefit office if my husband visits me for a month? He only has 2 months left on his visa.

Oh absolutely, we wouldn't risk anything that could stop us from being able to apply properly for the settlement visa, and this visiting visa was just for a week because he has a lot of loose ends to tie up back home. And also once he's here he'll need to be helping with supporting me and my kids so...

Visiting Visa Appeal Allowed - Change in circumstances

My husband's visiting visa was refused back in May and we have finally heard that the judge has allowed the appeal. The initial happiness and excitement of the ECO and ECM being shown to be wrong has worn off as we're now worried whether they will appeal and win the appeal as my husband's circumstan...

Tax Credit claim while still living abroad

I have just phoned the tax credits office to inform them that I married my husband in March. As he lives in Egypt, 2000miles away, I was expecting that it would not make a difference to my claim, but I had been told that due to my marriage we must both make a joint claim. I have even checked this wi...

I read back what I wrote to begin with and it sounds like I'm quite happy to be on benefits and plan to carry on claiming forever - I'm not happy to be on benefits, and once my husband is here and gets a job, which he'll be looking for straightaway, I won't have to claim housing benefit anymore, and...

Hi John,
I've been looking through already.
Question off subject,
If my husband needs to return to Egypt 2weeks to take exams once he's here on a spouse visa, will he be allowed to leave and return again?

Thanks,
Meg

Ok, thanks, that really helps.
Where do know this info from?
It's like searching through a swamp trying to find useful info. I'm sure getting a good solicitor to help would be much simpler, but I hate imagine how much they would charge.

Also, would I need to show what we would be getting after he's living here, because I'm sure most things will change as I will no longer be classed as a single parent. Or do I just use my current income?
Thanks,
Meg

Ah, thanks for the quick reply.
Is that after food? Or is food included in the disposable income? I suppose we could live off Tesco value baked beans and bread to get that down a bit haha.

claiming HB,Egyptian husband, visa advice please

Hi all, I'm a single mother of 2, a 4year old and 2year old. I'm privately renting a 2bedroom flat and claiming housing benefit. I work part time (17hours p/w) and also claim child and working tax credits and child benefit, and my ex-husband pays child maintenence. I manage my money well but don't h...
