You dont have to wait till last day but dont have to have 3 months of visa left. I know people who have applied with 2 weeks left on visa,

COA has been taking 8 weeks to arrive lately, i got mine last friday and i know at least 4 pple who got theirs this week after exackly 8 weeks. So goodluck on that.
but apply not later than 3 months to the end of her Visa.

you need to seek advice from an oisc registered adviser or a solicitor specialising on immigration. Did you seek advice before he left and during the AIT proccess did you have some one representing you?

If you from Zim then i think you might be able to apply under chikwamba but it aint an easy one either, to be honest i think you need a good lawyer/solicitor who specialises in immigration, or an oisc registered Adviser. Returning to apply from Zim aint that simple unless your case is very straight ...

On what grounds would you be applying for Discretionary leave, i believe its a difficult one to get and can take as many as two years and still get refused after all, Which country are you from and how long have you been on a student visa?

That one is complicated for me but im sure some board members here will help you as they always do, If not then get some advise from an immigration specialising solicitor or an OISC registered adviser.
