Re: March 2015 Naturalization application timeline

Do you have to book citizenship ceremony in your own borough/council? or can you go to any one?

but in my case, its effectively 6 years, right?

5 years to get ILR
apply for ILR and wait to get it
Stay in ILR for 12 months
Apply for Naturalisation

Is Naturalisation 5 years or 6 year?

Hi there Im here on a Tier 2 General Work Permit (with right to settlement) I always assumed I could apply after 5 years, but im now worried reading this on UKBA "you should have been free from immigration time restrictions during the last 12 months of the residential qualifying period." T...

Ive been here for 3 years already on a PBS Tier 2 Work Permit.

Is there a chance now that I will not be able to settle?

Surely it will only apply either for new applicants, or worst case for those who apply after April 1st?

Response appreciated

Thanks. I assume that if i move companies, I will have to re-apply for a Work permit, Work permits does not exists anymore and have been replaced by PBS visas. So if you apply for new employment then the prospective employer will have to get your visa or you can apply for Tier 1 general on your own...

I have to say, I am very pleased with this document. All the proposed changes will only apply to those who entered the country after April 2011: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/policyandlaw/consultations/employment-related-settlement/employment-related-consultation?view=Bina...

Thanks.

So, my only option really is to stay with my current company.

I assume that if i move companies, I will have to re-apply for a Work permit, which means I fall into the post 1 April 2011 category, meaning I cannot settle.

Right?

UKBA announcement

Current Tier 2 allows me to work in the UK until I have been here over 5 years. Does the new announcement mea...

apologies for bumping my very old thread. Are you suggesting that its ok to do employer child care vouchers? I think I understand your point. Youre saying that because of the knock on effect on my salary, I need to be careful that my salary is still in the threshold , right? Doesnt really have anyth...

Link between Tier 2 and Settlement

"Mrs May says she wants to end the link between temporary migration for work - and permanent settlement. "

Im here on Tier 2 General. Do you think they can change the law in the next year or 2 to prevent me from getting ILR at some point?

New non-EU limits

Hi there I am on a Tier 2 company sponsored. I have been in the UK for 2 years already. My Visa will run out when I would have been in the UK for 4 years 8 months. My questions are: Is there a way to renew my current visa? I am still at the same company, and will probably stay here for a long time, ...

Not sure i understand your point.

Effectively what happens is my employer pays the childcare before tax, and therefore my taxable salary is less, and therefore less tax. I gain a saving of about £100 a month.

I would rather not do it if it has any effect on visa renewals etc

Thanks John. Good to know.

p.s.

Somewhat related. My employer is part of a childcare vouchers scheme. Its effectively a tax break on childcare.

Does that count as public funds?

Maternity Allowance - Tier 2

Hi there

I am on a tier 2 company sponsored visa, and my wife was pregnant in the UK and claimed maternity allowance.

Will this jeopordise our chances of ILR? if so, are there any actions I can take to mitigate?
