ILR application time

Hello all,
I am on Tier- 1 general expiry Jan 2018 , I need to apply for ILR earlier for some personal reasons. My question is, what is the earliest time that I can apply for ILR if my visa will expire Jan 2018?
Is it Ok if I apply in April 2017?

I did not ask for five years, I left it to their judgment. Actually I did not receive the BRP yet, and its not mentioned in the letter.
I just asked the person who handed over my documents and the letter and he checked the system and told me that it was extended until 26/01/2018
