Thanks for your response.

When should i make the application for the resident card, i am only starting work this week. Would a month later be sufficient, i will have the payslip to support the application or do i need to wait until the Family permit expires.

Thanks for clarifying that. i didnt know that so in total how many years are we talking to a passport if we take the following routes

a) spouse visa route
b) Family permit and resident card visa
c) 4 years ILR visa?

Lastly , having just read the post again, I understand that i can travel within the EU, but on my own is my worry? As the Resident permit is usually applicable to travel with spouse only!! Unfortunately , there is no mention of the fact that on the EU website that i can travel without the spouse.......
