So what evidence does he need as ex wife is in Yemen and is a letter enough to HO or does he need a divorce certificate

And his main concern is that it could drag for 2 years for HO to recognise him as Single.

I am a EU National my self, nederlands too.

But from experience of friends i know that they needed only a letter from HO saying their application is under process.

So meaning if you ring the UKBA and ask for this, because of the application they would be able to help call their EU team.
