Ironically, the unstable system will discourage arrival of people that do have a choice, i.e., stronger and more skilled migrants. These workers will be reluctant to bring their families to a country for a maximum of 5 years, pay taxes and then leave? Why would anyone in sound mind create for himse...

No-one know what sort of impact it will have on Non - EU immigration. However, personally I don't think there will be any impacts due to financial isolation from Europe. You have to wait until the Goverment announce the changes to Permanent residency.

Is 4 years and 11 months enough to apply for ILR?

My initial Tier 1 was valid from 21st November 2008 to 20th November 2011 and extension is valid until 16th November 2013. Is the 4 days short for 5 years validity is a problem?

Thanks

Hi Guys, Quick couple of questions, was reading about the minimum pay threshold for Tier 2 (General) to be "between" 31K and 49K GBP. 1. Does that hold true for people like me on Tier 2 (ICT) long term Work permit ?? and 2. Is 49K GBP annual the upper limit, what about people earning more...

Apologies rajaram20, that was a typo on my part. That should have read pre April 2011. No worries. I read the MAC report and they have suggested three option 1) Do nothing - As the current restriction will automatically reduce the numbers - not sure whether Government will listen to this 2) Income ...

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/aboutus/workingwithus/mac/mac-settlement-report The MAC report has been published on the UKBA site. Point 5 on page 5 clearly states that the routes in scope for their consultation are Tier 1 Exceptional and Tier 2 RLMT only. Also having had a...

Year required for residency is mainly governed by European Union law. I am not aware of any such law. FWIW many(most?) EU countries require a longer period than the UK for residency. I don't think so. Most of the countries in Europe has more or less 5 years. Ofcourse citizenship is quite different....

Re: When will we get details from UKBA?

So it is now 2011. We all know Tier 1 (General) is closed to new applicants from outside the UK. When do you think we will see the detailed arrangements for extensions and settlement for existing Tier 1 (General) holders? Im talking guidance notes and perhaps even application forms. Do you think we...

Looking at the discussion, I have a question. Did anyone thought of what could be the transitional arrangement? Will it be a transition to Tier 2!!! or will there be any new category of visa created and we will be transitioned ? My intention here is not to confuse people but, to share the thought p...

I do not agree with sushdmehta. There is no indication of "some" in Damien Green's statement. This is another interpretation of how individual see it. Need to wait until all the details are announced.
