If you want your family to move in June/July, you could apply for EEA Family Permits for them now. That will take perhaps a month, and the permits are valid for six months so you will be comfortably covered. And it would leave some margin if there is any problem with the permits. Yes, now thats a gr...

I think you should be careful about this. SS rights exist only to remove impediments from free movement. The longer between when you move and when your family moves the harder it is to show that they need to move or your movement will be impeded. But it doesn't have to be the same day! Recent judic...

Thanks, since there doesn't seem to be any threat of s.singh being overridden by any new law and because eu takes precedence over uk law as far as freedom of movement is concerned, its probably best to have our home in holland and contract work in the uk. Then when we are all ready, we move (exercis...

timing surinder singh

Not sure what, if any, the restrictions are on the singh-route sequence of events ... for example: I am in the UK now after having worked in Holland and fulfilled the requirements of exercising treaty rights (so that my non-eu spouse and children qualify to join me in the UK). They are all still in ...

The children should all be able to attend university on the same basis as you (as an EU citizen) would be able to do. Was the child admitted already? If you have any trouble with this, there are people who can help, and you can sue the university as well! See http://eumovement.wordpress.com/2010/09...

no spouse would not need a visa but getting our one dependant in before he turns 21 is a good thing I suppose. yes I hear you on the netherlands but being english speaking is very limiting job wise. Also health is quite expensive at eu100pp. Food is going to cut 5 years off my life for sure. What d...

do you think my 1st invoice and proof of payment will be acceptable to be given a FP? Do you have to register with the NL government as or to be a self employed person? Have you done that? yep, all done- KvK and bank account sorted for biz. BSN nos. from the gemeente for us all + stickers (no endor...

Does your non-EU spouse require a visa to enter the UK? I would tend to wait to apply for the EEA FP until you decide to move back to the UK or want to visit. One billed client is good, but I would think it is better to have more and more revenue. Self-employed is a little less clear to prove. Empl...

Family Permit and exercising treaty rights thru own business

Hi all, can I get some comments on whether a family Permit can be applied for based on: 1. I have registered a new business in the Netherlands 2 months ago and have just invoiced my 1st client. 2. Payment due this week. so I would think this is definitely exercising my treaty rights. now I would lik...

Netherlands- accommodation that I can register as living at

...so we're flying to Amsterdam 1st week of July to exercise my treat rights as a UK citizen with non-EU dependents. 1. problem is there seems to be some law requiring minimum 6 months for renting? 2. we only need 1-2 months to get the paperwork done and then we will be able to decide exactly where ...

The benefit of you getting an EEA FP is that you can go through the process of proving that they are covered by EU law while still living outside of the UK. The EEA FP acts as a sort of informal confirmation, which would later be hard to argue against when the RC application is under way. This is e...

I am not sure if your plan makes sense, but lets discuss... First off - to get low cost tuition in UK universities, you have to have been resident in the UK for the preceding 3 years. That applies to you, to all Europeans, and to your family if they are entering on the basis of European law. So tha...

gb, For me I see much more opportunity spending 6 months in the UK and 6 months in the Netherlands- one place for running a sole proprietorship/ freelancing, the other for doing a part time masters with say 20 hours freelancing. Is this feasible and could I be considered resident in both countries?...

No, your history is irrelevant. When you register in the Netherlands, they will probably record your previous address. This is a purely administrative normal procedure (also for Dutch citizens) and will not affect the rights of yourself or your family. great, good to know there will not be too many...

Taking a step back, I was granted UK citizenship outside the UK so have yet to step in as a citizen (previously on holidays). I am also curious about the citizenship of your wife and your son. Is he your biological offspring? Note that you generally need to have a job in the Netherlands, for the Singh rules (moving back to your home country from another EU member state) to apply. And when you move back to the UK, you have...

Just out of curiosity- can a Family Permit for the UK only include my son ( and my wife follow the 'more expensive, but shorter' Marriage Visa-ILR route) or MUST all members be included? Yes, that is perfectly possible, but I would never consider that in your case. Apart from the cost factor, the E...
