We do this all the time my wife and I. Indeed I think if you're travelling together you're expected to clear together. if challenged by queue managers employed by the airport an insistent "I'm travelling with my wife" usually does the trick. The IOs never usually bat an eye. The worst that...

EC asks the UK to uphold EU citizens' rights

See press release issued yesterday - http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/12/417&format=HTML&aged=0&language=EN&guiLanguage=en The European Commission has given the UK two months to comply fully with 2004/38/EC or face an EU court case. Interesting reading and q...

UKBA to be split up...

Breaking news now on BBC. Theresa May has announced that the UKBA is to be split into two (looks like a separate Operational/Border Force wing) following last year's 'relaxed checks' row. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17099143 Would be interesting to hear thoughts of the current/ex IOs o...

Contrary to what MPH80 has advised she does not need to apply for a VISIT VISA. She will be able to apply at port for the TWOV concession provided: . She has an IRISH category D visa. .Confirmed onward air ticket to Ireland within 24 hours. Also a clean immigration history in the UK will help. If s...

Destiny You can go to any queue you like. In your circumstances, ie travelling with an EU family member, it is highly unlikely any IO would refuse to see you. If they did you would be well within your rights to politely request to see the CHIEF IO. Very interesting, INSIDER. Out of interest, is thi...

Re: Schengen Visa entry and exit stamp

But someone told my visa will be refused next time if I do not have French Immigration exit stamp. Is that true? Highly unlikely. France will be your first point of entry into the Schengen area so you are fine. If you still have concerns then keep your travel itinerary/hotel booking to later show t...

As ca.funke points out - the whole thing is a joke and a bit of a mess. It's not that complicated. Entering the UK via Ireland, the same rules apply as if you saw an IO and they let you in (e.g. if you are a visa national, you need a visa; if you don't need a visa, you are granted 90 days entry). Tr...

My understanding was as yours - i.e. that the CTA is an immigration arrangement that is (primarily) only aimed at facilitating travel of UK and Irish citizens. However, from what I have read and in my experience the whole thing is a bit of a minefield... Travelling to RoI from UK - at least by air -...

non-EEA family members of EEA citizens also do not need to complete a landing card if they have either a EEA Family Permit, a Residence Card or a Permanent Residence Card. And as previously mentioned, neither do EEA citizens. Exactly...and ILR offers a status that is more permenant than at least th...

Not strictly true.

EU/EEA nationals and Commonwealth Citizens with RoA are exempt from the landing card requirement. My thoughts are that such an exemption could be extended to ILR holders.

Landing Cards for ILR holders

Hi all Me and the Mrs returned from a very nice holiday abroad yesterday. It was the first time she has entered on her shiny new ILR and I was a little surprised that she still had to complete a landing card. Does anyone know the rationale behind this? Seems a little bit of a bureaucratic waste of t...

She is Canadian with ILR in the UK. We would like to spend an afternoon visiting Gibraltar and were wondering if, when ente...

Although not strictly relevant to your enquiry, it is interesting that the Immigration Officer in Dublin made a record of your arrival and only granted you entry for just over a month, instead of the 3 months that would be given to most visitors. This crossed my mind too. This and the fact that the...

Do you know that for a fact or just assuming? Every (air)port in the UK which you can arrive at from outside the UK will have immigration and passport control. Fact. For entries from the Republic of Ireland or elsewhere in the Common Travel Area, arrivals are not routinely inspected for immigration...
