Re: Citizenship application query

About to start my application for my first passport.

I have the usual foreign travel passport which I know I’ll need to submit to HMPO. I also have an internal passport (ie equivalent of a national ID card) which is not a travel document. I assume no need to submit that?

Re: Citizenship application query

Oh! I assume the date on the naturalisation certificate will be the date of the ceremony?

(Need this as I have to report my second nationality to my home country within 60 days).

Re: Citizenship application query

Oh yes I meant I’ll book it for as soon as I’m back in September. I’ve emailed them (unfortunately there’s no phone line for the ceremonies team).

Re: Citizenship application query

Thanks I’ll be away for 3.5 weeks so definitely will have time to do the ceremony when I’m back.

And thanks for all the help!

Re: Citizenship application query

All good and approved - less than two months!

Can I confirm I am allowed to travel using my BRP?

I have a trip planned for a month and flying out this Sunday. I assume it’s ok to travel before the ceremony?

Re: Citizenship application query

Silly question but I presume full scans of only the current passport and previous passport covering 5 years (showing travel stamps) are needed? Not older expired ones? (Weirdly my colleague was asked to submit ALL expired passports on her checklist!) My checklist just requests a passport (doesn’t sp...

I applied two weeks ago and they definitely asked profession (mine were professor and chartered accountant, I remember entering them).

Re: Citizenship application query

Argh despite checking three times I spotted a small error with my mother’s place of birth - I wrote X region rather than just X (town).

I’ll add a note before biometrics to correct this, but I assume no big deal?

Re: Citizenship application query

Yep that’s what I entered. I assume no need for tickets etc?

I’m well within the 450/90 day limit anyway.

Re: Citizenship application query

No I mean for example I left France where I was on holiday in the 01/02 and arrived in the UK on the 02/02, just after midnight.

So not a one day trip but rather a longer trip with departure from the foreign country and arrival in the UK falling in different days.

Re: Citizenship application query

Gotcha.

On some trips I left on one day and arrived in the UK on the next (late flights with arrival after midnight). I assume no need to provide flight bookings, just enter the relevant dates and they will figure it out via the passport stamps?

(Sorry, probably overthinking).

Re: Citizenship application query

Silly question maybe but for “previous applications” do I need to add the ILR one as well or is that a given as I am supplying my ILR BRP number elsewhere on the form anyway?

Re: Citizenship application query

Thanks!

For “tax office reference number” - my university payslip has an “employer PAYE reference number” compromising of numbers and letters - something like 000/X12345. Is this what I need to enter?

There’s also a very long 15-number “HMRC payroll ID”.

Re: Citizenship application query

Just a process question -

Am I right that I need to pay and submit the application and then will be sent a separate link to upload all the supporting documents? Thanks.

Re: Citizenship application query

I have both a biological and an adoptive father (adult adoption). I presume for parental details on the naturalisation form they want births parents? Neither are British so their nationality is irrelevant.

Re: Citizenship application query

Thanks both, appreciate your voices of reason. The citizenship application asks for previous uk visa details - I’ve had lots over the years and don’t remember some details of the older ones from 2008-2011, such as when exactly I applied (I know the years but not exact months). I do have the BRP numb...

Re: Citizenship application query

Re adoption - my concern is more whether it counts as being known under a different name and thus needs to be disclosed. I’m entitled to take it as per the adoption court order but never have and have never been known under this name. So should I just omit this info for the sake of avoiding complica...

Re: Citizenship application query

Just looking at the passport application and the definition of uncancelled passports is confusing. I have multiple Russian passports that are expired and presumably cancelled as each was replaced by the next one. Most have “annulled” stamped inside. Presumably these won’t have to be sent in? Moreove...

Re: Citizenship application query

Appreciate it.

Do referee forms need to be printed single sided or is double sided with their signature on the second page ok? I presume they will be scanned anyway so makes no difference?

(Sorry, massively overthinking here).

Re: Citizenship application query

That’s right, referee forms. Thanks! Finally the dreaded patronymic… I am Russian so have two versions of my name on my Russian passport. First name and surname in the Latin alphabet and First name patronymic and surname in Cyrillic. I’ve always ignored the patronymic and it’s never caused an issue ...
