You can also lose your citizenship in another way. If in the first 5 or 6 years after someone receives citizenship, if he/she is convicted of a criminal offence and consequently gets a jail sentence lasting an YEAR OR MORE, then he/she can be stripped of his/her citizenship.

Bhavna,
yes, your passport is stamped every time you come back after you've received your ILR. That was true in my case too.

You should soon receive another letter asking you to contact your local council to fix a time for the ceremony. In my case, I got this letter a week or so(I think 10 days to be precise) after I got the citizenship approval letter.
Good luck to you.

ATW,
No, there is no stipulation that you have to be employed to apply for naturalisation. As you've pointed out, as long your IR affairs are in order and one has no criminal history, it is going to be fine.

You would be fine. The citizenship application doesn't ask you if you've claimed any benefits. You'd only need to provide your NI details and so on. Plus you are well within your rights to claim unemployment benefits as an ILR holder

Vinny Boy, I just failed to understand the language and relevance of your post. It looked like you've missed the simple question put forward by 'mailquery' and instead chose to run around expressing your opinions on the benefit system. What you say probably makes sense, but it too much room for misi...

Vin123, You're speaking NONSENSE. An ILR Holder is eligible to claim ALL benefits that apply to his/her individual circumstances, unlike an HSMP/WP/Student or any other 'Non-Settled' category (except for Asylum), who have no recourse to Public funds. So nowhere in any letter that you receive from th...

I went to the Victoria Passport office in person, but I had to carry my previous passport with me. It doesn't matter if its commonwealth or not. They take your old one in along with the application and then send it back along with the new UK passport. They don't cancel your ILR in the old passport (...

Question for you. Did they declare their absences from the UK (totalling around 1000 days) on the ILR application form? Did they get a letter from the employer confirming this period of absence and that they were getting paid in the UK and still employed with them.
Thanks

Sharat, If you want to apply at a time when both(you and your wife) TOGETHER can apply at the same time, it will be June 2006, as this is the time when your wife completes her 5 years stay in the UK. At this point in time only YOU are eligibe to apply for naturalisation as you've done your 5 years s...

If your wife has only been around in the UK for 3 years, she cannot apply at the same time as you. However, after you've been naturalised, she can then apply to be naturalised herself as she's been in the UK for 3 years, holds an ILR and is the spouse of a British Citizen.

1. My WP expired whilst I was on my second trip. Actually, I had quit my previous company before I went to the states for 5 months. 2. I don't mean a solicitor, but an OISC approved immigration consultant. Its probably not necessary to go through one, but when there are complications like I had, its...

Didn't have to take a language test. It is NOT a part of the Naturalisation process, as of today. Maybe sometime soon. I've only received the approval letter today and I need to fix up a time to take the Oath with the local council/register office. So yes, I need to take the oath. No police enquirie...

Hello, I don't see a big problem with this. My case was fairly similar to yours but was processed OK. I was away on work in the US for a couple of long periods of 4 months and 5 months each. I went through my immigration consultant and he got it done in a few weeks time. Since your case is not that ...

Naturalised..

Folks, Just to let the board members know that I've just received my Naturalisation approval from the IND. I went through an immigration consultant as I thought that would make a better case because of my absences from the country. I was away for about 520 days in the last 5 years (most of it on wor...

Seka,
You're fine mate. No worries at all. IND only asks applicants to report conitnuous absences of 3 months or more. Not 3 months all together in the 4 years.

You people might also want to check the Origin B2 laser/ speed trap detection device. It covers a whole range of detectors from Gatsos(fixed radars) to Truvelos to Mobile Lasers (like the one which caught you on the motorway). Mobile radar is optional. Also tells you the speed limit in the area wher...

Answers to your questions. 1. Dont quite know the actual timescales. The IND website talks about a 6 and half month average timescales. 2. Stay outside the UK is not NOT relevant once you have sent in your citizenship application. 3. Yes, she is still eligible for ILR. If you have secured your Briti...

TT, The MOST OBVIOUS REASON why you'd need to USE Form NTL and transfer your ILR status is if your old booklet/passport has run out of visa pages and say if you need to apply for a new visa for say France, then the French Visa officer would REQUIRE to see your ILR stamp on your new Passport. Fullsto...
