Thanks for your reply.

If my wife is only applying for an extension to her existing visa will she still need a B1 English Certificate or will her existing A1 Certificate be accepted. ?

New LUK Test

My wife has just received her UK Entry Visa and we will be moving to UK at the begining of August. Her 27 month visa carries the usual 'KOL Required' endorsement. Could someone please advise me which LUK Test she will have to take and, perhaps more importantly, what happens if she does not pass the ...

Great News. We received my wife's UK Entry Visa today so all systems are go for the big move. It only took 5 weeks from the date we submitted the application though the 4 inches of supporting documents I submitted with it may have had something to do with that. Thanks for all the help we received he...

Thanks John. I will just show it in the 'Other Income' box then.

PS. I solved the English Speaking & Listening Test problem. There is a Trinity College, London Examination Centre within walking distance of my home. Pass at Grade2 gets an A1 Certificate.

Does the OAP count as Public Funds/Benefits

I am British and hope to shortly return to live in the UK provided I can get a visa for my Chinese wife. Question 8.7.13 of Form VAF4A asks if the Sponsor receives any money from Public Funds and/or benefits. I deferred drawing my OAP while I lived in China as that would have meant it becoming 'Fixe...

Well I think I've finally found the solution to the English Speaking & Listening Test requirements. Up to now everything had directed me towards the Cambridge University KET Test which requires a pass in both Reading & Writing as well as Speaking & Listening to get an A1 Pass Certificate...

I realise I'm looking well ahead but I've been searching the internet for organisations that do ESOL/LIUK Certificate Courses and one company keeps coming up. http://www.lifeintheukcitizenshiptest.co.uk/ Does anyone know of this company and, if so, whether their certificates are recognised by the UK...

Hi John, This is who I am using http://www.ukvisaandimmigration.co.uk/about-us.php They claim that "We are level 3 OISC credited, which is the highest Accreditation an immigration firm can have regarding UK Immigration law." I am using them because I am in China and felt I needed someone i...

Thanks again John.

I felt something wasn't right in their advice and will now be able to raise a query with confidence.

I'm afraid this is not the first time that I will have questioned the competence of the particular Case Officer I have been assigned to. :x

Thanks for your reply John. I have an UK agency helping me with documentation at the moment and they have advised that she must pass the 'Life in UK' Test within 6 months of arrival which seems quite a short amount of time to arrange for and complete the necessary course. Any idea why they might hav...

With regard to the 'Life in UK' test to get her ILR, and always assuming we get a Spouse Visa to start with, is there any set time within which my wife will have to take the 'Life in UK' test ?

Hi John, It very much depends on when we can get an appointment for the test and if we have all of the other documentation in place at that time. Quite a few documents have to be sent out from UK and may well be delayed by the vagaries of the Christmas post. If we cannot complete everything in one t...

Hi again John, I think we are on the same wave-length now and thank you for the pointer to SET 3.5 which has eased my mind on the matter. I am now in the process of identifying where, in China, my wife can obtain her English Speaking & Listening Certificate. It seems that there are only 3 'open'...

John, I think we may have ended up at cross purposes. I was simply saying that if 282(c) is not a viable route to obtain my wife's visa she will be able to pass the speaking and listening test and will therefore comply with 281(i)(a)(ii). However, although I am British by birth and therefore have Ri...
