Just an update - I have now changed my travel plans (a lot of money later! :( ) to 5 working days after my appointment.

Thank you all for your very helpful advice - just wish I had asked for it way sooner and saved myself the stress and expense!

Thanks for clarifying that. Hope no offence was taken. sometimes people misinterpret other's words and I'm sorry for doing so. NCS will ask you to stay in the country for 5 days after the appointment to make sure that you are still in the country when the HO receives your application. You will need...

All this is the result of some bad advice from my lawyer who told me they would send my application in when I was out of the country and so I didn't even know this was a potential problem until now. Unfortunately, you cannot apply in the UK if you are not in the UK on the date the UKBA receives you...

Not good enough. If you don't intend to live in the UK after becoming BC, you do not meet the requirement (unless you join the British Army which I presume you don't). Keeping property and planning to return in a few years does not meet the requirement. The minimum the country can ask from its resi...

Thanks again Jambo.

So if I left on the 13th, that would be ok?
How would they know what date I have left the country?

I am keeping my property here and do intend to return after a few years most likely.

Applying for naturalisation outside of the country

Hi, me again  I can apply for Naturalisation on 13 March 2012. I fly out the country on the 8th. I know it says in the form "you should not send an application direct to the Home Office if you are outside the UK at the time you make the application." I will be using the NCS, so does ...

If your wife is German passport holder, then your children can also get a German passport by birthright.

Update - Passport obtained after 2 days!

Thank you for your advice, just to let you know I am so happy, my daughter received her British passport in the post today after a 2 day wait. (I used the fast track option since we will be travelling soon). I submitted my husbands passport, his P60's and voila - no problem at all. Now I hope I will...

Thank you SO much Kitty. In all my searching, I didn't see that piece of information. On that basis, would you say I have a good chance of a successful Naturalisation application, even without my PR? Should I include a covering letter with the application and any advice on what it should say? Many t...

EEA2 years before marriage count towards PR/Naturalisation?

Apologies for posting again and thanks to all who have been helping me so far. I just need to get as many opinions as possible before I apply for my naturalisation please! Basically, still have one point on which I can't get a straight answer from UKBA... Do my years before marriage count towards PR...

Thanks, I will confirm with the German Embassy but I seem to recall they said dual nationality wouldn't be a problem. I am more concerned at the moment with my own application for naturalisation, but I just can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone whether my 6 years (5 + 1 automatic PR) begin...

Thank you so much for your replies, really appreciate it. We will be returning to SA in a few weeks time. If my daughter gets her British Passport and I do not, and we later would like to return to the UK to live, would I be eligible to live and work here based on her passport status? In my case, I ...

Husband started exercising rights in April 2003 (proof is letters of employment and P60's) however his 'blue' residence document is dated end of March 2006.

Can my baby get a British passport - and is it worthwhile?!

Hi, I am a South African Passport holder, and my husband is dual SA/German. We have lived in London since 2003. Our daughter (1) has a German Passport but I am wondering if she is eligible to get a British passport? She can't get it from me since I don't have ILR, but my husband has been exercising ...

After an entire day (!) on hold, I finally got through to someone at the UKBA who told me that although Permanent Residence may be automatic after 5 years, you still need proof of it via the EEA4 form, and without that, I cannot apply for Naturalisation!! It's just one thing after another. No idea w...

Thank you so much for your response! So, to clarify: My letter and visa from the Home Office stating I am the Family Member of an EEA national, are dated the 13th of March 2006. Am I correct in thinking I can therefore only apply for Naturalisation on the 13th of March 2012? If that's the case, then...

Thank you so so much for your reply! Complicated!! Family member of EEA national - naturalisation

Hello all, I'd really appreciate some advice, since I keep getting conflicting info (from UKBA, checking service, immigration lawyers) and would prefer not to waste my money anymore!! I am a South African passport holder, married to a German passport holder, currently living in London for almost 10 ...
