The lawye can help you with your appeal alongside pushing the ministry of external affairs to grant you your rights. I had the same issue with holland and a Dutch lawyer sorted it out for me. There is no way you would get the similar response on your own.

There is either an ECJ or Tribunal ruling against an employer in the uk who dismissed the non eu family member due to not providing their residence permit. If it is an ECJ that might help you. I will try to find the link for you when I am on a computer but meanwhile do a bit of research.

OP look for ECJ Carpenter ruling. It might help you to solve your issues without living in another EU state for a longer time.
