First, I don't think you're crazy. I also try to plan ahead. But I think to plan about 10 years legal stay by 2023 is a long shot. I think there is 50% possibility it will be removed by then. I myself came to UK 9 years ago. If I were from USA, I would not live in UK for 11 years to get citizenship...

A friend came into the UK in Sept 2002 with a student visa. She has since been studying but has now been cut by the 5years limitation on the Tier 4 visa where no further leave will be granted under Tier 4 if the applicant's total time as a student has exceeded 5 years and her university has refused...
