EVERY EMBASSY IN THE WORLD HAS DIFFERENT WAITING PERIODS.
I HAVE READ IN DIFFERENT PLACES THAT THE LONDON EMBASSY CAN
TAKE UP TO 12 MONTHS. NOT THAT BAD ,ACTUALLY VERY GOOD..
THE OTTAWA EMBASSY ? WELL THATS ANOTHER STORY..

Foreign birth registration

UPDATE: I Received my FBR Certificate yesterday ,May 25 2012,From the Embassy of Ireland in Ottawa Canada..I applied June 2009..3 Years!!.. No excuse for that..Now Another 18 or more weeks for my passport!!! Every other Irish Embassy in the world!! That is on the web, States 4-6 Weeks.. Go Figure!! ...

fbr processing time @ ottawa canada

New posting at embassy of Ireland,Ottawa website ..Fbr applications will be reviewed after 10-12 months,. ( encouraging) does not say anything about actual processing times.
