Just to second what Rog said on taxis. You might as well buy a monthly pass or even a bi-monthly one for the amount you will spend on taxis while in London!! Just forget that thought! However, there are atleast two types of taxis, the famed "black-cabs" which are the official taxis. These ...

Living costs in London

Taikoo, Housing depends upon which part of London you live. But generally for a two bedroom flat, expect to spend anywhere between £700-800 PCM (per calendar month). Add another £90-110 PCM for council tax again depending on the area you choose to live. Provisions are really broad and it really depe...

Hi try-one, I don't quite understand what you mean by "not accredited by NARIC". Did you actually write to NARIC asking for a letter and/or certificate of comparison for your Diploma and did they come back saying that they don't recognise yours to be a valid diploma? Is your diploma a two ...

Hi Mini, Thanks for your reply. Sorry couldn't respond earlier since I was away from work for sometime! I am going to apply with all the evidence I have, pay-slips, last year's IT return, and the coming year's tax projection. Plus, I am also including (increment) letters from my employers as additio...

tech, It takes anywhere between 4 - 8 weeks to get the NHS card. For one of my friends, it took 12 weeks! When you registered with the GP, they should have given you a bunch of documents detailing the various doctors/consultants available in that GP, and the name of the consultant you will be seeing...

NI

tech, As f2k says, you should be able to get an NI as long as you have a valid WP or any other employment visa, including HSMP. You do not necessarily have to be employed to get an NI. Having an NI helps in many ways including employment, since employers expect you to have an NI to be able to deduct...

HSMP Query: Past Earnings

Hi Everybody, I have a few questions regarding HSMP, especially earnings. I am presently preparing myself to apply for HSMP in, "Under 28 Years" category since I am 26 years old. I am likely to apply for HSMP in October 2004, and since the income will be calculated for the past 12 months f...

Ajay, For most of these, you unfortunately will need a bank account in the UK. Because most of the services in UK need a debit card/bank account to start with. But if you have a international credit card you can try using that to set-up these accounts. BTW, if you haven't already done so, pl do get ...
