Just certify have the copies certified. I can't see why you're considering risking the application for a solicitor's fee of a few pounds. Walk into your nearest solicitor and ask if they provide this service. It would be unusual if they didn't. On the UKBA page (from the link you were given) did yo...

wow- didn't realise I'd fuel such a healthy debate, haha!

So what the general consensus then for those applying for a UK Spouse visa, originally from the states? I'm getting the impression certified copies are better?

And, call me stupid, but what does ECO stand for, in relation to Britain?

From any solicitor. Usually you can walk into any high street firm and ask at reception for a solicitor to certify a document for you. They will take a copy and stamp it to say that they certify that it is a true copy of the original. It takes minutes Can you recommend a good solicitors to go to- b...

Where in the official guidance does it ask for the sponsor's birth certificate? The passport copy must be legally certified. A standard copy won't be accepted. Perhaps Im getting confused- can u link me to the page where it specifies a sponsor's requirements- I was going off UKBA website. Sorry for...

My birth certificate- it asks for that kind of proof for the sponsor.

Also, do we have to send our passport, or can we send a standard copy of that?

Supporting Documents for UK Spouse Visa

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone had a good link to an easy-to-ready checklist for all the supporting documents one would needs to apply for a UK Spouse visa. MY American Wife is getting ready to apply, but isn't 100% sure of all the things she needs.

Many thanks in advance.

NEW QUESTION: Passports-

Does it matter which passport she uses to apply? Her current one has her maiden name in it- does she need to upgrade to one with her new last name>?

Indefinate Leave to Remain [ILR] vs Spouse VIsa

Hi all,

So currently looking to bring my US Wife over to the UK to live with me.

I assume we would have to apply for the Spouse Visa and not the Indefinate leave to remain? I assume that comes later on?

Thanks all!

hi guys, Wow- this is awesome! Thanks for great feedback. Carlyann, what service did you use to get the documents checked? (Was it UK or USA based?) If it is a straight forward application then I'm sure you can prepare it yourself. Having said that I know of people who's situations were ''complex'' and were still successful without paying someone. Also, applicants from countries such as America tend to be scrutinised less so in my personal opin...
