Just relax and wait for your decision in both cases :)
HSMP approval doesn't effect any way in your case either you claimed points in spouse category or not.

Dont be confused Rex, you may find almost every kind of case here on this board. This matter has been discussed last year. There will be no problem on your existing visa. It will remain the same. New HSMP visa will be different in nature and appearance as well. Just for your further satisfaction.......

We should hope they will soon be able to upgrade all the data provided on the web. Since you have time why dont you take some time to detailed guidance for HSMP before doing anything else. http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/working_in_the_uk/en/documents/all_forms.Maincontent.0054.file.tmp/HSMP%20Guid...

If the matter is clearly for one month then even 2k will be ok but, if you dont have any solid proof to maintain yourself after a month then its not.
Solid proof means: job offer, accomodation arrangements etc.

Will you please tell us that from which institution your wife got her Masters degree in Pakistan? Cause, home office dont consider the degrees from all institutions even if they are accredated by HEC. The reason is NARIC, whose web site is in your range now.
