Have a look here:

It is currently about a month for the sponsiorship application and a further 5 months for considering your wife's part of the application. Security or health issues might delay it.

I think that if you land in Quebec, they like you to have gone through the Quebecois process, but once you have landed, there is nothing stopping you from moving to Quebec from elsewhere in Canada, or moving from Quebec to another province. My impression is that the Quebec people just like to flex t...

Hi Rhodes, Has the high commission placed the visa in your passport? I am curious about how long this generally takes, even though you are in London and my case is in Buffalo, USA. Thanks Cane Not yet - I am due to pick it up on Thursday next week. In London, if you take it in person, you are given...

Request for passport

I got a letter from the Canadian High Commission this morning, asking me to let them have my passport so they can put the visa in it! It has taken rather less than 5 months so far, since the papers arrived in Mississauga.

No, you can't, unless your father himself is a Canadian citizen.

Have a look at the immigration website for more details: www.cic.gc.ca/english

I think I'd be inclined to send the High Commission a fax to seek acknowledgement that your IELTS score has been received. That is just about the only way to contact them, certainly in London.

If you have a British passport, you can go as a visitor and stay for 6 months, but you wouldn't be able to work. There are certain circumstances when you can get a work permit, but I think that's generally where the person has skills such that there isn't a Canadian resident or citizen who could do ...

I have given up checking the CIC site on my application. Once they have made a decision, they will write to me and I will almost certainly get a letter before the website is updated. It would be excellent if it could include a bit moe detail so we know thast progres is being made and the file isn't ...

You can check the status of your application on the CIC website, using one of various file numbers and so on that you have.

As Kayalami said previously, it doesn't necesssarily mean that your application has ben approved. All you can do, I think, is to wait to see what comes in the post.

I had my medical done (albeit as a spouse) in central London and it cost £180, which included the x-rays and blood test (as well as sending the results by courier, I believe).

The information you get from the police under the Data Protection Act details both charges and convictions, and perhaps simple arrests too, so the Canadian authorities will probably be aware of your past difficulties. But, I am pretty sure that they would not worry about people who have not been con...

I might add that my understanding of the position is that you need to specify on the form how long you have been in Canada, and that the imigration authorities in Canada will ask for whatever they want to ask for to verify what ou have told them. I would guess that they might, for example, want to s...

Without knowing anything about you or the consultant, I think that he is probably dishonest - either lying to you, or providing fake letters. He certainly couldn't guarantee such a letter, which would say that you have been offered a job and that it is a job that could not be filled by a Canadian or...

Cheers. I had my medical done before submitting the papers, as I am doing it as the spouse of a Canadian citizen. The children are Canadian, too, by virtue of being bon to a Canadian citizen, so they don't need medicals or anything. We have applied for proof of citizenship for them, but that's not a...

Timescales shown on CIC website

Does anyone happen to know how to interpret the application processing times shown on the CIC website, please? For example, if the website says that they’re processing applications received up to April 26, and that the current processing time is 35 days, does that mean that they are now beginning to...

I have plenty of trustworthy family in England, so that would be worth considering, I guess, though I think that Mrs R would be reluctant to send in her passport for several months, after her unhappy experience with Lunar House in Croydon. But thanks for the suggestions. I shall discuss with Mrs R.

Yes, I realise that, but the receptionist at the High Commission, as well as one of the people at the advice window upstairs, told me that I could leave the papers with them, and they were collected two or three times a week and sent to CPC Mississauga direct from there. I didn't dream it - honest! ...
