You guys easily give in to futile arguments on unsubstantiated opinions about what the law is but when it comes to facts, solutions, results, they're nowhere to be seen. Now I see why Directive won't answer. A quick read through this forum and one can easily see that the commission doesn't give a bu...

Re: account

If an organisation (private or not) has a (legal) obligation to establish the identity (or age) of someone they are dealing with (as banks do indeed have, at least for some operations, as well as retailers selling alcoholic drinks), they have to accept the same sort of evidence as government agenci...

Directive, I was asking if you have experienced what you said about the Commission's interest in all sorts of things that hinder free movement.. I am not sure what you are asking When you say that about the Commission's interest, is it wishful thinking, something you read somewhere or do you have a...

Directive, I was asking if you have experienced what you said about the Commission's interest in all sorts of things that hinder free movement. ca.funke, I agree with you. Apparently they can indeed do that. But it's against the law and we're trying to find a way to give that law some respectability.

Thanks Directive for the directions. (1) and (2) were dead ends so let's hope the other half work.

How do you talk with the European Commission?

Thanks guys for the replies but could we please focus? The main issue here is the Court's attitude. I know we can sue anybody we want. The MoJ surely appreciates our donations. But how can we get to a practical resolution so this doesn't spread wider? Anybody had any experience with the European Com...

Why do you say it is special or unusual? It's a plastic card, much like the other EEA cards. Anybody can easily look at them in the PRADO database given above or just googling "portuguese id card". That said, even if the card was made of unicorn sequins and written in sanskrit, how can tha...

(...) So if the bank says that they do not accept any ID cards as proof of ID (...) No, the bank (as other banks) clearly say they do accept EEA id cards as proof of id. They just said my card was not an EEA id card so they could not accept it. Try the Equality Act 2010 I hope it doesn't sound the ...

Solvit? Good luck with that. I submitted a complaint to them (by computer) and when they replied they mixed up the public authority I was complaining about with another institution, and said they couldn't proceed because: 1- they can't take action against that institution and 2- since I already comp...

I think so. In any case the bank also explained their take on the events -denying any wrong doing- and it matched my version. Nevertheless their lawyer said that I had no grounds for an action, asked the court to strike out the claim based on some article and that was exactly what the judge did. Eve...

The point is that the bank says very clearly that it accepts EEA id cards as proof of id. Therefore it must accept all cards otherwise they are discriminating. They had more than enough opportunities to validate the card. There is even a public website describing the cards as fysicus have shown. It ...

(...) There are no legal provisions for EU ID Cards when it comes to private businesses, even though they are commonly accepted. I don´t see how can you take legal action?! Again, I am talking about PRIVATE BUSINESSES, not UKBA, or governmental institutions. (...) The Lisbon Treaty outlaws discrimi...

My husband's Swiss ID card has been rejected several times as unacceptable ID in banks and most recently at a mobile phone store. When asked why, the answer has been because Switzerland is not part of the EU so therefore only the Swiss passport can be accepted. Made no sense to us then and now. I'm...

Can you please give more information about the ID card. Who was it issued by? Why did anyone consider it invalid? Who exactly considered it "invalid"? The card is the official EEA portuguese id card used to travel in the EEA and also accepted everywhere (pubs, public institutions, other b...

I was refused to open a bank account because my eea card 'was invalid'. After much insistence with the bank, the financial ombudsman and finally the courts, the latter said that there are no legal grounds to my claim. This seems to go against the anti-discrimination directive of the Lisbon Treaty bu...
