Travelling while EEA2 visa application is under process

I am an Indian citizen marrried to Spanish citizen.

I have to travel urgently to India but my passport is with HO for a EEA2 application.

Can I request my passport back and travel on it?

Or do I need to withdraw my application and apply from India?
