How can they dare to refuse Americans... The point I was trying to make was that Blair has said that he wanted the Home Office to start taking a strong look at the country of origin (Eastern EU, Pakistan, India, etc..) and I wanted to know if any American has been affected by that as well as the pr...

I landed in UK last weekend. I had a recent experience while I visited Accenture stand in a job fair in London. The HR representative told me that Accenture will not hire HSMP or anybody else unless they have ILR. She further told me that Home Office has instructed to give higher priority to candid...

X-Rays

FWIR, there is a list of which folks from which countries can expect to recieve an X-ray at immigration. Mostly, it's due to respiritory diseases such as typhus, etc. As a US Citizen, this usually isn't done. I guess since the US is one of the 'first-world' countries, there is an assumption that a c...

US IT Folks Question - US Citizens Only, Please.

A couple of general questions: Was being a US Citizen (Yank) a plus or minus? If so, in what way? Was your US Work Experience helpful? What was the biggest adjustment in transitioning from the US commercial sector to the UK commercial sector? For the senior CCNP/CCIE folks out there: 1. How's the m...

Talked to the bank

The response I got is that you can open an accoutn online or open an account here and then trransfer the funds to a new accountin the UK.

I have not had time to call the UK new accounts branch and discuss what to do next. but will keep everyone updated.

Here's the Catch-22: How the h311 am I supposed to get a letter for a company that went tits-up-dead-in-the-sewer bankrupt?!? I wrote the marchfirst attorneys but was told 'bugger off' as they have bigger fish to fry than my poor little request for proof of employment. (No, I didn't keep the paystub...

If I have difficulty claiming points, what can a rep do for me then? I thought this was pretty black and white: you either have the points or you don't. In my own case, I have some employment holes due to some of the companies going out of business but I used my cover letter to explain those and pro...

Using an agency vs self-application

Can I see a show of hands for who did what and the pros and cons for each?

I am still deciding if I should just try applying on my own (and save the $2000 USD) or bite the bullet.

The *real* question is what the heck can a rep do for me that I can't?

Re: IT job skills suggestions

Besides, I am 35. Is it a bit late for the UK job market? Hey, I'm 37 and I'M not too old to work in the UK! :P Much of anyone's employability depends entirely on thier skill set. I've been in contact with Reed and they seem to feel that as a Senior Cisco Engineer, I have a pretty good shot at eith...

YES, YOU CAN

Check out the American Embassy pages for the UK - they list several American Banks with branches in London.

We are going to use Cititbank and open an account here for there. Speak to your local branch representative.
