Tax Basics: Most individuals work in the UK as employees and have Income Tax and National Insurance deducted at source on a progressive scale as follows: Income tax: £0 - £4,745 = 0% £4,746 - £6,766 = 10% £6,767 - £36,415 = 22% above £36,415 is taxed at 40% I was just going through the inland revue...

It is clear in aj77's case that the credits have not been claimed fraudently, instead it appears that the inland revenue has made a mistake and is awarding the benefits. The question is whether Inland Revenue can reclaim all the money that has been paid. Recently the IR tried to claw back child bene...

Re: No need to worry!

As you quite rightly say, WTC and CTC are not listed in paragraph 6, and there is therefore absolutely no problem in you claiming them. And if those are the only benefits you have been claiming, on any visa extension application form, if there is a question like "Any you claiming any Public Fu...

The only major advantage of the new budget scheme is for those with children, but, for those on WP/HSMP (with no recourse to public funds) there is no benefit even though they pay income tax and make NI contribution like everyone else. The increase in personal allowance was as expected - to keep jus...

The receipt is acknowledged. It says that the FLR application has been received and a case worker will deal with it in due time and if there are any question they will get back to you. Also, urgent treatment is given only in exceptional cases as they have outlined in the urgent treatment application...

Re: Convincing prospective employer to issue Firm Offer Lett

Can anybody advice me about how should I convince the prospectie employers to issue a firm offer letter. Currently many employers have shown interest in my profile, but as soon as they come to know that I have not yet got the HSMP Visa which is pending with home office they are shying away. They pr...

At this point you do not need to do anything. When your HSMP approval has come through, you will have to apply for EC together with your wife. You will then be required to show proof of marriage-certificates, photographs etc. Have a look at documents required to apply for EC.

Since there is no distinction between in and out-country applicants, I don't see why the HSMP approval per se is invalid. Worst case, if the HO is not willing to consider in-country switching as a special case, you should be able to apply for EC from your home country.

are you sure that the 'basic' account you are talking about is not a 'current' account. Since the govt plans to use electronic money transfer to pay out pensions, benefits etc. (rather than by cheque), it has put pressure on banks to provide for a "basic" a/c with characteristics that I h...

i dont know about this 3 year wait, even for a mortgage they dont wait that long. Mortgage is no problem. If you default, your house will be repossessed. The company/bank have a win-win situation. Current a/c provides for an overdraft which is unsecured lending as well as a switch card which can be...

Just my thoughts... For the sake of argument even if the application period for HSMP is covered, once the outcome is communicated to applicant, the applicant will technically become illegally resident at this point (since no applications in process) and hence would be ineligible to apply for FLR and...

I have used the argument that I am a 'resident' for tax purposes which has been accepted and ISA opened. At least Nationwide, Abbey and Halifax (all of which incidently are among the top in ISA list) have no problem. Mind you though, Halifax insists on 3 year residency for current a/c.

Some more info.... Banks in general will insist on 3 year residency to open a current a/c, in which case you have no option but to wait for 3 years. Some others would be more willing to open an account and will make a credit search. Therefore, ensure that your name is in the electoral register. Nati...

Barclays bank provides a current account for those who have recently arrived in the UK. I opened this without any hassel but took about a month to have it setup. Just send them the documents required and meet the salary criteria. Have a look at this link: http://www.wealth.barclays.com/BRC1/jsp/brcc...
