Like I stated, it seems that only about 25-30% of NI applicants are being asked for it.

Still, for a tenner, the reduction in stress is a bargain ( and it IS part of caseworker's guidance to ask ).

I'm just a little worried about my current address proof, I don't have any apart from HSBC issued tax certificate which was sent on my current address - I hope it gets accepted. I've read they are pretty easy-going with the proof of address - they just want to see something "official" and...

I did the PSNI check beforehand. It didn't make sense to me to wait for my naturalisation app to work through the long process and then be delayed for another month ( including mail timing ) just over the PSNI check. The check costs a tenner, took three weeks ( 2 weeks processing plus mail timing - ...

Who cares - you don't need the certificate for anything again - I got mine back from NCS and just threw it away ( not like you're going to frame it or anything ). Seeing as it is a statutory critical test - primarily of language, and many people have been caught trying to having somebody else take t...

That's all that matters - completion of qualifying period BEFORE submission ( along with remaining in the country for 5 days afterwards and being able to respond to requests for additional information within 3 weeks ).

I don't understand applicants who can't wait patiently for a response. Your app was received 1 month ago and UKBA advises you to expect 6 months processing time. No coincidence that once UKBA stopped taking calls, the service sped up considerably. So you got an answer. Not happy with your answer you...

DrJack, My advice to anybody who is experiencing stress is to contact a no-win no-fee solicitor. That's exactly how I obtained my ILR - which I was quite stressed about and was concluded with ease. The lawyer asked me the same questions over and over - he wanted to be certain he was going to be succ...

Since your question is pertaining to December 12th changes, there are no test cases here to use as proof yet. Depending on opinions on an internet message board, considering the above, would not exactly be the wisest when risking 851 quid. Why not call UKBA or an OISC lawyer for an answer. Or try NC...

The applicant's visa history is fully considered at the time of naturalisation. Any previous visa fraud would result in refusal. Theoretically, later knowledge of visa fraud could result in deprivation. However, you ask "how easy". My guess is not very easy as the historical number of depr...

If you maintained a UK address during your absence, mention of "vacation" address(es) is entirely unnecessary. You are allowed to be out of the UK for 90 day stretches prior to ILR, so a 50 day vacation is not that big a deal. ILR follows much stricter absence criteria than naturalisation....

I hope this helps some of those waiting. I was approved quite quickly - I am thankful as I missed the Xmas Dec 15th or so cutoff before UKBA shut down for Xmas. They seem to be back to work now. It's stressful dealing with government workers. The government worker themselves are the biggest part of ...

The exact answer will not be easy to obtain here as it's not exactly spelled out in any guidance notes. However it's clear that "we will contact HMRC for confirmation that your tax and National Insurance affairs are in order". Naturalisation app cost 851.00 - about equal to a one week Sout...

the time restricition is only applicable prior to the submission of application so you don't need to worry and don't need to inform UKBA. Travel all you want but also remember any request for more information by UKBA must be answered within 3 weeks. Failure to answer in time will mean your applicat...

You should have arranged an MOT. All journeys to a pre-arranged MOT are valid. The bus or taxi will get you to the post office to sort out the tax disc. Unfortunately, traffic wardens and the nasty registration plate recognition cameras are jut too efficient nowadays. Better your contact UKBA and de...

Best advice for the long approvals is to take it upon yourselves to ask why? If you don't know why, then perhaps "maybe it's this" should be explored! UKBA caseworkers are instructed to defer under certain situations. All the caseworker's notes are easily available and locatable using goog...

Your council receives your certificate via special delivery.

UKBA mails your approval 2nd delivery which can take 3 to 14 days to arrive.

Not necessarily a Christmas backlog.

blackhole, I feel for you in your situation but I think you may have some issues that need clearing up - let me explain. There are several scenarios in the caseworker guidance where the instructions are to defer the case and say nothing to the applicant eg. the UKBA does not do simple criminal check...
