Re: travel without UK passport

Just as a heads up to the community about traveling on your non-UK passport: I traveled to Barcelona immediately after getting my citizenship at the end of May. When I returned, I had no problem using my BRP and my passport to enter the country as I normally had before getting citizenship. I just re...

Re: I'm a professional dominatrix. Can I naturalise?

This is one of the best questions I've seen on here. Honestly, I really hope that they wouldn't have an issue with it. The good character requirements seem to be related to criminal activities and arrests, and I'm hoping that since you've been paying your taxes and hopefully don't have a criminal re...

Re: Easiest route to move US to UK with family of a UK Citiz

Bear in mind too that as a US citizen you are taxed on your Worldwide income, so when you start earning in UK, IRS will want their cut. True, but only if you make more than a certain amount. You are still legally required to file your taxes in the US, but you only have to pay taxes if you make more...

Re: Easiest route to move US to UK with family of a UK Citiz

I'm almost positive that your wife will need to obtain her partner visa before she comes to the UK. I immigrated to the UK from the US as a partner of a British citizen, and the process required applying for the visa from within the US. The application process took about six weeks for me, but can ta...

You can take the test as many times as you like, but you have to pay £50 each time.

I think if you do need to re-take the test, you must wait a week before taking it again (but that I'm not too sure about).

Best to just pass it the first time.

I just received mine, and I don't have it with me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it just says, "Indefinite Leave to Remain".

I disagree. According to the Guide Set M: One of the requirements is that you have to complete 2 years’ leave to enter or remain as the partner of the person named in your application. That period runs from - the date on which you entered the UK with a visa in the relevant category; or, if you did n...

Good luck, I submitted mine on the 15th of August and finally got ILR on the 10th of January (almost five months later...). That was for Set(M). From what I've seen the Set(O) applications seem to be taking a bit longer than that, but you never know. From the response on the forums the applications ...

I just got ILR with my civil partner using a foreign civil partner certificate. If the UK recognizes it as legal, it's fine and you don't need to register your marriage in the UK.

No, I didn't call them. I just waited. I thought about it, but from what I've read on here they don't really seem to care if you call, especially if it's within the six month window. I believe the original letter they sent specifically said not to call unless six months has expired. It was really fr...

My timeline

Well I've been lurking here for a few months reading up on people's timelines. Since it was helpful for me, I've decided to put mine up for others: Type of application: SET(M) Date Applied: 15/08/2012 Type of payment: Credit Card Date of the acknowledgement letter: 16/08/2012 Date of biometric lette...
