It is never a great idea to enter on a visa for the first time one year after it has been issued.
I agree. However, are there any rules governing this?

Visa quesiton

A relative of mine is planning to come to the UK this autumn to start a PhD. For this, he'll need a student visa. His wife plans to join him one year later, as a dependant. They are trying to work out whether it is logistically easier (or indeed possible) for: * both of them to get visas at the same...

Yes, it's been my experience that packs ordered from UKPS Web site are not up to date. The latest version of the notes I've seen is IL/15 02.06.

FromThere2Here,

As it has been pointed out elsewhere in this thread, the "If you have applied to the Home Office..." wording has been removed from the guidance notes. Please carefully re-read the thread and check on which version of the notes you are basing your analysis.

Thanks

Delivery of passports

What are the practicalities of the Secure Delivery used by UKPS for delivering passports? More specifically: * Can the passport be sent to one's work address? * If not, I take it someone needs to be at home to sign for the passports? Do they have to have an id for each member of the family whose pas...

Passport application form - place of issue?

Section 5 of UK passport applicaton asks for place of issue of the naturalisation certificate. What should I put there, London / the name of the council / HO / etc?

Good spot, ppron747  This is largely academic, but I have two versions of the guidance notes, and I think the one you are reffering to is the older of the two. If you look in the bottom right corner of page 8, you'll see something like "IL/xx xx.xx". I bet yours says IL/14 09.05. At a...

Naturalisation certificate timeline

Is the naturalisation certificate granted on the spot during one's citizenship ceremony?

Realistically, can one submit a passport application on the day of the ceremony, provided they fulfil all other requirements such as applicaton form, photos, countersignature etc?

Good point. I can't speak for anyone else, but my plan is to provide parents' details regardless of the outcome of this discussion. It's grandparents' detaiils that are tricky (and were the subject of my initial inquiry)...

The most convicing argument I've heard so far is ppron747's; surely, if this information was required, the online form would reflect this. However, this disagrees with what I've been told by UKPS.

Anyone care to call UKPS and get a second opinion from them?

confused1, 'We need to know if you are British'. If you keep reading further towards the end of the paragraph it outlines "If you have applied to the Home Office and have been granted a certificate of registration or naturalisation, do not fill in this section. Please fill in section 5". O...

I spoke to UKPS earlier today, and have been told that they do in fact require ancestry details (section 4B) for first-time naturalisation-based application. To me this makes little sense, but this is what I have been told by a UKPS official. I have also been told that the version of the form that I...

Even though the form I have fails to make it clear, all evidence presented so far suggests that the entire section 4B is optional for naturalisation applications.

I'll probably give UKPS a call on Monday to confirm this is still the case and the rules haven't changed recently.

Thanks everyone.

Mine is also SE/04/01. The only plausible explanation is that there exist multiple revisions of the form, with different wording. See the scanned image below or at http://static.flickr.com/38/104342973_de62a9a3b1_o.jpg

lemess,

I have to agree that the presented wording leaves no scope for confusion. However, the form I have in front of me has a different wording for item 4B.

May I ask which version of the form you have? Does the front page have a code printed in the top right corner that looks like SE/xx/nn?

I think I see where the confusion is coming from. We may be talking about different forms. It would appear that Form C1 you are referring to is used for passport applications made overseas. The form and guidance notes are available from the FCO Web site ( http://tinyurl.com/24qpz ) and are quite dif...

Many thanks for the replies so far. I've just had another look at the paperwork, and can't for the life of me find anything that would state that those details are not required for applications based on naturalisation. Guidance notes, page 4 says: "First passport: [...] You should fill in secti...

Passport application

Consider the following scenario. A person is applying for their first British passport, on the basis of naturalisation (1yr with ILR after 4 years of HSMP). The person has no British ancestry whatsoever. Literal reading of the passport application form suggests that they need to provider grandparent...

I've received an identical "CT1" letter yesterday. I wonder if anyone here who has received one of those in the past has subsequently had any progress with their application?

Naturalisation -- unexpected letter

I applied for naturalisation back in December. Confirmation letter was received some time ago. Today I got another, somewhat unexpected, letter: Thank you for submitting the documents in support of your application for British citizenship. We are still dealing with the application, and we will infor...
