Re: new citizen applying for first passport

If you are in the UK, you can use the NCS facility at most local councils. While they will charge you a fee, they will photocopy your passport and submit certified copies. They will return the passport to you and you will then be able to travel even while your application is under consideration. A p...

Re: When should I apply for passport?

Does your other nationality allow for dual citizenship? If so, look at getting a CoE-RoA vignette in your current passport instead of a British passport.

Re: Renouncing the British Citizen, but want to stay in UK

@takfly Your question is not only rare, it is unheard of. You are the first person that I have come across on this forum to want to give up British citizenship. The only other person I know of who asked the question was going to get naturalised, but wanted to know if he could back out of UK citizens...

Re: Renouncing the British Citizen, but want to stay in UK

@Ban.s The point is, Section 1(1) does not state whether ILR ceases to exist on the acquisition of British citizenship or whether it merely lies dormant and can be resumed. The case referred to by Vinny atleast gives us some guidance, but there is no certainty, as this thread demonstrates. I doubt t...

Re: Renouncing the British Citizen, but want to stay in UK

52. Ms Naik, in oral submissions, said that a British citizen who is also a citizen of another country would, in practice, retain his or her indefinite leave to remain “stamp” in the passport of that other country. Whilst that may be so (we express no view), the continued physical presence of a sta...

Re: can child borned abroad apply for BC if parent get ILR

As the child is born in the UK, s/he is entitled to British citizenship with registration under Section 1(3) after the parents get ILR. After registration, if you apply for a British passport for them, they will automatically lose Indian citizenship and will need to surrender their Indian passport. ...

Re: Renouncing the British Citizen, but want to stay in UK

You can not reclaim ILR. It was lost when you were registered. On renouncing your British citizenship, you will have no right of abode or leave to remain. You will need to apply for a Tier 4 study visa (at overseas rates), or a Tier 2 sponsored work visa or marry a British citizen and get a spousal ...

Re: Renouncing the British Citizen, but want to stay in UK

Registration is done for minors, naturalisation is done for adults. As you were a minor at the time, you would get a certificate of registration. I believe, as this is the first time that I have come across such a request, that you need to apply for and get your original nationality. After that, you...

Re: Renouncing the British Citizen, but want to stay in UK

Not true. ILR is incompatible with being a British citizen. Getting British citizenship extinguishes any ILR granted before becoming British. The ILR ceased with the completion of the registration/naturalisation ceremony. http://www.immigrationboards.com/british-citizenship/will-renouncing-british-c...

Re: Travel restriction

The UK does not place any restrictions on your use of your old passport. However, the country that issued the old passport may have restrictions on its use. For instance, as jaweb has mentioned, an Indian passport should be surrendered within three months of the citizenship ceremony. But that is Ind...

The prognosis for your visa application would be very bad.

a) Illegal overstayer
b) No tax being paid on income
c) Unmarried relationship of less than two years.

Re: Renouncing the British Citizen, but want to stay in UK

If you renounce your British citizenship, you will no longer have right of abode in the UK. Right of abode is something only a British citizen has (apart from some Commonwealth citizens who have held it continuously since before 1983). Assuming that your original nationality is not based in the EU, ...

Re: Visa for family on medical grounds

You may want to look at a ‘family of a settled person’ visa. The requirements for these are more onerous. https://www.gov.uk/join-family-in-uk/overview I do not think there is anything like a carer's visa, apart from the one above. I think the expectation is that you can get support for caring withi...

Remember that even if you were to get a long term family visa for your mother in law, she can only stay in the country for six months at a time and she will need to be away for atleast six months. https://www.gov.uk/family-visit-visa/overview You can stay for a maximum of 6 months on each visit and ...

I'm afraid that it sounds like the B(OS) route is closed for you. Given that you have spent most of your life in the UK, espec...

Re: Indicative Visa fees for 2015/16

Outflak1 is correct. The children will need to be registered using form MN1 after atleast one, preferably both, parent(s) have been naturalised. As a rule of thumb, children are registered and adults are naturalised. The difference is that children born in the UK are entitled to registration when th...

Re: ILR via Ancestry Visa - a few questions

I'm going out on a limb, so please don't take my word for it, but I was under the impression that only degree and post-grad courses taught in English were accepted as proof of English language. I doubt that a diploma, let alone a certificate course would have been accepted. In this scenario, I think...

Re: Financial requirement costs tory seats

I think the OP is significantly overstating the proposition. A significant proportion of migrants, if not the majority, of immigrants do not vote Tory anyway, so the Tories have nothing to lose. Then again, most immigrants are concentrated in seats that are currently Labour. So, again, nothing to lo...
