When is the earliest to extend Tier 2 General Visa

My visa is due in May 2016. But due to my travel requirements (I need to visit European countries often for work purposes) I am planing to extend my visa sooner that it is required.

Could somebody tell me when is the earliest possible to renew my visa to extend the stay in the UK please?

Did you go with your passport for the PEO or your passport was already at the UKBA?
It was in the UKBA Sheffield office. My decision was given on the following day and it came positive.

Her degree is self funded and looks like that is not an option for my friend. Thanks a lot for the input. He might consult lawyers and I will update the thread if he comes up with a different solution through the lawyers :)

If I mention the second address only in the cover letter, then do I still need to mention it in the 'Previous Addresses' Section in the form? You might need to or you might not.
